Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Rotary Hospice House is a community that honors life, values humility, and shares hope. As an RN, you treat all residents, volunteers and staff members with respect and courtesy. You regard the dignity and best interests of each resident, recognizing that they have a right and an obligation to take responsibility for personal actions and choices. You are expected to fulfill your RN obligations and responsibilities with integrity, and perform every duty in a conscientious, diligent, and efficient manner.

ACCOUNTABILITIES/ KEY RESPONSIBILIITIES:

  • Assumes responsibility for the delivery of care for each resident, ensuring that all personal and nursing care is provided in accordance with the mission of The Salvation Army, agency, regulatory and established ethical guidelines and requirements.
  • Monitors the treatment regime and health status including physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological needs to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to assess the resident's situation, to detect subtle or significant changes in symptoms, in comfort and know when action is necessary.
  • Performs nursing care to residents including administering prescribed medication and treatments, and observing, recording and reporting symptoms and changes in resident conditions; offers compassionate care by remaining open to the goals and values of residents.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with all members of the hospice team, with residents and their family members, and can effectively and patiently collaborate toward arriving at the best practice and best care of residents.
  • Carries out established procedures to offer care for residents, is aware of the upkeep of the facility's equipment (such as fridge temperatures, battery operated devices, emergency equipment, and oxygen concentrators) and uses supplies properly.
  • Provides caring environment for residents and families including facilitating participation of residents and family in care plans.
  • Maintains pertinent records and ensures all documentation is accurate and complete. Maintains strict confidentiality of information regarding residents and families. Documents in electronic health record (Point Click Care) and in the E-MAR all medication reconciliations.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities such as in services to maintain current knowledge and practice.
  • Maintains relationships with all external health agencies, professionals and the community.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/ TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY:

  • The RN is supervised by the Director of Care and the Executive Director of the Rotary Hospice House.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The RN takes on an assignment of up to 5 residents and supports the LPN partner in his/her/their assignment of 5 residents too.
  • The RN will be working at a Hospice in Palliative care environment.
  • The RN role requires a frequent amount of typing and walking, as well as physical ability to provide direct nursing care.
  • The RN will work rotating shifts.

The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army's Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The applicant has a current license as a Registered Nurse with the BCCNM; the BCCNM will have performed a criminal record check on the applicant.
  • The applicant has education in the field of palliation and/or an interest in gaining knowledge in the field of study.
  • The applicant has education in other areas of nursing that support their candidacy for palliative care.

CONCENTRATION and SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • The performance of this job requires the ability to read and understand written reports (including charts and Point Click Care).
  • It also requires strong assessment skills, the ability to quickly and accurately complete medication calculations, and proficiency in computer use.
  • Additionally, the role requires an understanding of environmental and chemical measures used for individualized treatment of discomfort,
  • And lastly, the ability to support and work with all team members through attentive listening and effective, respectful communication.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $41.58 to $48.24 with a maximum of $54.90.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
