A Part Time Histology job involves working in a laboratory to prepare and analyze tissue samples for microscopic examination. Duties typically include processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining specimens to assist pathologists in diagnosing diseases. Part-time roles may have flexible hours, making them ideal for students, professionals seeking supplementary income, or those balancing other commitments. Requirements often include a background in laboratory sciences, histotechnology certification, or relevant experience.
To thrive in a Part Time Histology role, you typically need a background in biological sciences or medical laboratory technology, with knowledge of tissue preparation, staining, and microscopy techniques. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), microtomes, and regulatory standards such as CLIA or CAP certification is highly valued. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, time management, and strong teamwork skills are essential soft skills for this position. Mastery of these skills ensures accuracy in specimen processing, efficient workflow, and high-quality diagnostic results in healthcare and research settings.
A Part Time Histology position usually involves scheduled shifts that align with the laboratory's operational hours, which can range from early mornings to afternoons or evenings depending on the facility. Part-time employees commonly work 2–4 days per week, with shifts lasting anywhere from 4 to 8 hours, offering flexibility for those balancing other commitments. While the workload can be steady, histology labs prioritize timely processing, so efficiency and adaptability are important. You’ll work closely with pathologists, lab technologists, and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment to ensure specimens are accurately prepared and analyzed.
