Job Summary: The health room paraprofessional will provide health room management and assist in the implementation of the District health services program.
Classification and Salary:
- $19.00 - $24 per hour
- 10 month position
- 8 hours per day, 1 day per week
Duties: This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job.
- Administer and document medications as directed and under the indirect supervision of the certificated school nurse.
- Perform basic first aid.
- Care for injured and ill students in the health room and document services on the health room log and/or the student information system.
- Perform clerical management of the health room, including but not limited to:
- Filing care plans, medication orders, and other health service-related forms.
- Answering phones and assisting parents within the scope of the position.
- Managing health room and medication logs.
- Organizing and storing health room supplies.
- Copying and distributing materials as requested by the school nurse.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
- Contact parents regarding illness and injury or assist secretarial staff with providing information to parents on contact.
- Provide care for students with special needs as needed after receiving training and under the direction of the District nurse.
- Assist in monitoring immunization records.
- Assist with mandated screenings.
- Attend in-services, workshops, and trainings as needed.
- Assist in emergent situations that may arise as a result of accident or natural disaster.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by the district nurse or the building administrator as deemed necessary to ensure safety of students at all times.
Essential Requirements:
- Transcript documentation of an Associate's Degree or completion of two years of college coursework (72 quarter hours), passage of the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Assessment test, or comparable proof of training and/or experience.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid First Aid/CPR card
- Fingerprint Clearance and Background check
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students and staff.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to supervise individual or groups of students in a school setting without licensed staff oversight; work in a team situation.
- Ability to work effectively in an environment which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the job.
- Ability to type accurately; operate standard office equipment such as computer, copier, and audio-visual equipment.
- Ability to work with students who may exhibit aggressive behavior, as required by specific job assignment.
- Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for students.
- Such alternative to the above requirements as the Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate degree of physical stamina.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending and lifting.
- Possible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using restrooms and in tending to injury and illness.
