Description
This recruitment is being used to collect applications for a Part-Time Limited Harbor Technician for the Docks and Harbors department. In accordance with 2 PR 010, part-time limited positions may be non-competitive and are not subject to public announcement.
The Docks & Harbors Department is hiring a Part-Time Limited Harbor Technician to join our team.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position is based at the Port Field Office (PFO) near the Goldbelt Tram. Workdays and hours vary based on the cruise ship schedule. The position may work up to five days per week, with shifts of up to eight hours. A flexible schedule may be available depending on operational needs and employee availability. Hiring preference will be given to applicants who can commit to working for
at least three months.
Typical Responsibilities
Harbor Technicians perform a variety of duties to assist Harbor Officers with the operation, maintenance, and management of the City and Borough of Juneau's docks, harbors, and associated facilities.
A primary responsibility of this position is providing excellent customer service to cruise ship passengers arriving and departing the Port of Juneau. This includes greeting visitors, answering questions, providing general information, and helping ensure a positive and welcoming experience.
In addition to customer service duties, Harbor Technicians assist with Port of Juneau security during cruise ship port calls. Security-related tasks may include checking identification, assisting with passenger screening, conducting patrols aboard the port security vessel, and supporting vendor and loading zone operations.
When not engaged in customer service or security duties, Harbor Technicians may assist with cleaning and performing basic maintenance or repair tasks at port and harbor facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High school graduation or the equivalent

Not less than 18 years of age
at time of appointment;
AND
A valid Driver's License
at time of appointment and for continued employment.
In accordance with 33 CFR Part 105: The selected candidate will be required to sign non-disclosure agreements for sensitive security information.
The selected candidate must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Workers Identification credential (TWIC). An individual who lacks lawful presence and certain immigration status in the United States, has a connection to terrorist activity, has been determined to lack mental capacity or was convicted of certain crimes will be ineligible for a TWIC.
Desired Qualifications
Experience:
Prior experience in vessel operation exceeding 18ft in length including VHF radio communications experience is desired.
Background in Customer Service.
