Join us as we make history at the Hanford Vit Plant, known as the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant. We are designing and building a one-of-a-kind facility that will turn radioactive and chemical waste left over from World War II and Cold War plutonium production into a form safe for disposal. Your efforts will help protect the nearby Columbia River and the communities, salmon, and wildlife along its shorelines throughout the Northwest.

Sitting at the confluence of the Columbia, Snake and Yakima rivers near two mountain ranges, our community provides access to year-round outdoor recreation, 300 days of sun a year, more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, and the amenities of large cities just a three-hour drive (or short flight) to Seattle and Portland.

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer will report to the Quality Services Manager in the Quality Assurance organization and will independently perform complex professional assignments requiring the application of specialized and/or advanced quality assurance principles. The selected candidate may participate on or lead a team on special studies/activities pertaining to quality assurance aspects of WTP.  This position works a 9/80 schedule, offering every other Friday off.

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Richland, Washington project office, then may offer part-time telework flexibility. • Leads and/or participates on cross-functional teams for complex business topics/issues (e.g., quality management system, laboratory quality program, suspect/counterfeit items program, casual analysis.)
• Monitors and evaluates project personnel execution/implementation of the project quality program. Supports the effective implementation of applicable project quality requirements.
• Assess and monitors project engineering, environmental, procurement, construction, testing, operations, decommissioning, and other activities related to the quality program/plan.
• Reviews and monitors nonconforming conditions and associated corrective actions to ensure quality program effectiveness.
• Review and reports on project quality-related procedures and manuals for conformance to project quality program/plan requirements.
• Develops quality procedures for review, approval, and issuance in accordance with approved processes.
• Develops revisions/amendments to project quality program/plans.
• Reviews and reports on new and revised regulatory requirements and their impact on the established quality program.
• Analyzes issues and identifies actions and recommended solutions to mitigate performance risk.
• Maintains contact with designated client quality personnel to provide status, manage relationships, and execute applicable actions.
• Provides direction and assigns work to quality specialists and others who assist on specific assignments. Reviews and checks work.
• Responds to project personnel (engineering, construction, procurement, and others) who request guidance on implementation of quality requirements.
• Engages with functions to ensure quality requirements are built into processes.

Grade 25

• Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.

 Grade 26

• Requires bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

• Must possess the right to work and remain in the United States without Bechtel visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check which includes verification of employment and education.
• Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge)
• Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries—are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

• Working knowledge of a recognized nuclear quality assurance standard (e.g. NQA-1, 10CFR50 App. B), and its application to construction, engineering, acquisition services, supplier quality, materials management, operations, commissioning, training, environmental safety & health, and subcontractor processes. Also, knowledge of regulatory requirements (DOE Order 414.1, 10 CFR 830) that impact the QA program.
• Knowledge of the application of corrective actions for conditions adverse to quality, and the application of nonconformance reports for nonconforming or deficient items.

• Knowledge of and experience applying software quality program standards, e.g., ASME NQA-1, Sub-part 2.7.

• Knowledge of and experience with laboratory quality program standards, e.g., ASTM C1009-13a, and their application to in-house laboratory activities. 
• Knowledge of suspect/counterfeit items program requirements and effective implementation.
