Job Summary
The Bennion Center HIVE (High Impact Volunteer Experience) Coordinator is an integral part of the Bennion Center team and is seen as a role model and mentor for first-year students living in the HIVE living-learning community in Kahlert Village residence hall. This position serves an ambassador to the Bennion Center and is responsible for community engagement eduction, programming, and resource connection. Candidates must have work-study to be eligible for this position.
Selected candidates must not have other employment on campus totaling over 7 hours a week.
Responsibilities
Mentor first-year students, plan community engagement opportunities, teach basic curriculum around pathways to community engagement, work front desk shifts at the Bennion Center office and Kiosk at Kahlert Village, plan weekly HIVE meetings, and attend weekly HIVE leadership team meetings.
  • Mentor a group of first year students in the HIVE residence hall.
  • Hold a consistent weekly meeting for HIVE students.
  • Attend weekly meeting with HIVE leadership team to prepare for weekly HIVE meetings and to meet other administrative functions.
  • Learn and facilitate the Pathways to Community Engagement Curriculum to HIVE students in a regular meeting
  • Build relationships with First-Year offices and spaces over the preceding spring and summer to advertise to and recruit first-year students for the HIVE.
  • Participate in any orientation events over the summer that have opportunities to engage with First-Year students.
  • Develop an application and interview process for the HIVE in collaboration with the Associate Director for Student Engagement and Outreach
  • Conduct pre-screening of HIVE applicants and assist with interviews.
  • Collaborate and communicate with HIVE Resident Advisors
  • Connect with community partners to plan at least 1 community engagement opportunity for HIVE students outside of Saturday Service Projects or Service Corner Nites
  • Attend regular meeting with the Associate Director
  • Attend all Saturday Service Projects in collaboration with the HIVE.

Desk / Kiosk Attendant duties will include:
  • Serving as ambassadors for the Bennion Center at the Bennion Center Kiosk at the Gail Miller Community Engagement Tower (located at the Kahlert Village residence hall) and at the Bennion Center office in the student union.
  • Referring interested students to the appropriate Bennion Center programs and community engagement opportunities both on and off campus.
  • Maintaining inventory of supplies and needs at the kiosk and in the Bennion Center.
  • Guiding and instructing drop-in volunteers on available Service Corner projects.
  • Attendants will assist Bennion Center staff with other clerical tasks to help meet the
  • mission, vision, and values of the Bennion Center.
  • VISION: For students to discover their people, passion, and purpose through participation in direct service and other community engagement (or civic) pathways.
  • MISSION: The mission of the Bennion Center is to support student well-being and success by providing transformative community engagement experiences that make positive impacts on student development and community needs.

Additional duties and expectations will include:
  • Attend Bennion Center Student Leader Orientation
  • Being available for HIVE move-in at a determined date in August
  • Keep open and timely communication with the Bennion Center Staff Partner
  • Meet deadlines given by Bennion Center Staff Partner
  • Utilize the MyTime system for payroll
  • May be offered a spot to serve on the Bennion Center Student Board

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current University of Utah student
  • Must be awarded Federal Work Study for the year
