Description: Part Time Bus Monitor
Salary: $12 per hour (Salary and work year to be determined by the Board)
Available: 2026-2027 School Year
*A negative TB test result must be on file prior to starting work
Education and Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Satisfactory SLED background check required
  • Clear drug screening and TB test

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Responsible To: Director of Transportation / Area Supervisor
Job Goal: Under general supervision, to assist the bus driver in the safe and orderly transportation of students by helping them board and exit the bus, enforcing safety protocols such as seatbelt use and securing wheelchairs, and maintaining student discipline throughout the route.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Reports to the bus driver while on the bus.
  • Ensures passengers observe all safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline on the bus.
  • Assists driver in keeping the bus clean.
  • Maintains attentiveness to surroundings and student behavior at all times.
  • Provides appropriate assistance to special needs students as required.
  • Engages students in educational or group participation activities during the ride.
  • Maintains communication with parents as needed.
  • Coordinates special needs of each child with parents, driver, and teachers.
  • Enforces regulations against tobacco usage and eating on the bus.
  • Assists substitute drivers in properly running the route.
  • Does not touch students unless assisting with their care.
  • Sits behind the last child or in the middle of a loaded bus.
  • Maintains polite and professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Assists driver when making a turn-around.
  • Attends all safety meetings.
  • Remains awake and alert at all times.
  • Complies with discipline policies set by the district.
  • Participates in on-site training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board policies.
  • Specific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
