Job description

The Eveland Laboratory at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (St. Louis, Missouri) is looking to hire a part-time field research assistant to help us produce great science. This position will primarily take place at our Field Research Site (FRS) in St. Charles, MO but may have some responsibility at the main Danforth campus in Creve Coeur, MO.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of field site through weeding
  • Preparing and installing signage and guiding visitors to field
  • Safely work in the vicinity of heavy equipment
  • Performing routine maintenance on small equipment
  • Assist in the collection of samples and recording of measurements
  • Ensure that all safety rules, policies, and site-specific safety guidelines are followed
  • Management of greenhouse grown plants
  • Other duties as assigned
 Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Good observational and organizational skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn and comply with safe operation of equipment
  • Must be able to regularly lift and carry 40 lbs and perform strenuous physical labor

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to and between Field Research Site and Main Campus as needed
  • Enrollment in a Bachelors or Associates degree in biology or related field is preferred but not required.

Work Environment:

This work will mostly take place in farm environments in the summer and fall months. Exposure to harsh conditions such as hot temperatures, dust, fumes, and noise for long periods is possible. All employees are required to wear personal protective equipment when machinery is being used. Employee must be able to walk, stand, use hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch.  Â
