Description:

The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a part time Technical Design & Fabrication teacher. We are seeking enthusiastic, energetic, collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and high school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting. The visual arts department provides a supportive environment for students to explore visual communication with curiosity, and expression. Student work enriches the visual culture of the School and prompts community engagement.

The Lawrenceville School is on a trimester schedule. Classes meet 25 times per term, 2-3 days per week, including some Saturdays. Therefore, a possible schedule could be one week at M,W, F the next week T,TH (& some Saturdays) 8:30-3.

Additional work may be available in running weekend fabrication and shop hours, building coverage and workshops for the faculty and student community.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Teach two- three sections/one to two preps per trimester (approximately 35 students).
  • Responsible for curriculum design and documentation.
  • Encourage creativity and independent thinking while fostering community and belonging.
  • Work professionally and cooperatively within the visual arts department, the School, and the broader Lawrenceville community.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fabrication machinery (e.g., CNC machines, welding equipment, various saws, drills and hand tools) based on manufacturer instructions and schedules.
  • Maintain maintenance records, including work orders, repair logs, and inventory updates,
  • Ensure the safety of the students and ensure the machines adhere to safety regulations, including conducting inspections to detect wear and tear.
  • Participate in department meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital Arts, Graphic Design, Technology and Engineering , or a related field or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • At least two years high school teaching experience
  • Industry experience in manufacturing, woodworking, or industrial arts
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technical design tools, laser cutters, software, (Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Fusion, AutoCAD, Rhino) and digital media platforms.
  • Ability to teach both introductory and advanced courses in Technical Design and Fabrication
  • Demonstrated success fostering student creativity and critical media literacy
  • Demonstrated success facilitating collaborative, student-centered classes
  • Demonstrated success in providing timely, effective student feedback
  • Demonstrated dedication to working with high-school students.
  • Experience with project-based learning and multimedia instruction.
  • Demonstrated success working as a part of a high-performing team
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication (oral and written) abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, as needed and appropriate.
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Must be capable of using visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard
  • Required to stand for long periods of time
  • Required to talk, hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. without assistance
  • Ability to see with normal parameters.
