Job description

Description:

This is a 10 month (August - May), full-time and a 2 month (June & July), part-time administrative appointment reporting to the department chairperson of the chemistry program.


Candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in a scientific field with preference towards chemistry, biology, biochemistry, environmental safety or industrial hygiene. Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years’ experience in the environmental safety field. Upon hire, candidates are required to maintain appropriate certified training in hazardous materials training in compliance governmental regulations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are needed for success in this position.


The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to effectively perform the following functions 1) Dispose of hazardous waste in compliance with EPA regulations. 2) Actively manage the Vermeer Science Center stockroom, including student workers and inventory. 3) Supervise the laboratory preparation in support of natural science faculty. 4) Facilitate a safe laboratory environment through documentation of procedures, chemical handling, and training of students. 5) Procurement of chemicals, supplies, and equipment. 6) Manage the functionality of the equipment in collaboration with departments including balances, microscopes, safety equipment, etc. 7) Manage stockroom budget. 8) Other functions as needed in collaboration with biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, and other STEM programs as needed.
