Part Time Electrochemistry information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Electrochemist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Electrochemist, a solid background in chemistry or chemical engineering, particularly in electrochemistry principles and laboratory techniques, is essential, usually supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with analytical instruments like potentiostats, voltammetry systems, and data analysis software is often required. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills help you excel in research, reporting, and collaboration. These skills ensure accurate experimental results, safe laboratory practices, and effective teamwork in both academic and industrial settings.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time electrochemists, and how can they be addressed?

Part-time electrochemists often face challenges such as managing complex experiments within limited hours, coordinating with full-time team members, and staying updated with ongoing research projects. To address these issues, clear communication with supervisors and colleagues is essential, as is effective time management and detailed record-keeping. Many part-time professionals also benefit from using project management tools to track progress and ensure seamless handovers, which helps maintain the continuity and quality of research.

What is the difference between Part Time Electrochemistry vs Part Time Chemical Technician?

AspectPart Time ElectrochemistryPart Time Chemical Technician
Required CredentialsRelevant chemistry or electrochemistry certifications, sometimes a degree in chemistry or related fieldAssociate's or bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical technology, or related field
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, research facilities, or industrial settings focused on electrochemical processesLaboratories, manufacturing plants, or quality control labs in chemical industries
Employer & Industry UsageResearch institutions, battery manufacturers, electrochemical product companiesChemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, quality testing labs

Part Time Electrochemistry roles focus on electrochemical processes, requiring specialized knowledge in electrochemical techniques, while Part Time Chemical Technicians handle broader chemical testing and lab work. Both roles often require chemistry certifications and work in laboratory environments, but their specific focus and industry applications differ.

What is a part-time electrochemistry job?

A part-time electrochemistry job involves working on research, analysis, or laboratory tasks related to the study of chemical processes that involve the movement of electrons, such as batteries, sensors, or corrosion. These positions are typically found in academic labs, research institutions, or industry and require knowledge of chemistry, physics, and sometimes engineering. Working part-time means that the job has reduced hours compared to a full-time position, making it suitable for students or individuals seeking flexible work schedules.

Fractional (Part-Time) Maintenance Technician

Fractional (Part-Time) Maintenance Technician

Voxel Innovations, Inc.

Knightdale, NC • On-site

Part-time

Posted 3 days ago

Job description

About Voxel
Voxel Innovations unlocks next-generation performance through Electrochemical Machining (ECM)—including pulsed and hybrid variants—to rapidly and precisely shape specialty metal alloys for aerospace, energy, industrial, AI, and medical customers. Our ~25–30 person team owns every step of the technology life-cycle, translating R&D into production under one roof.
The Role

Voxel Innovations is seeking a Fractional (Part-Time) Maintenance Technician to own and execute preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of critical facility, CNC, and electrochemical machining infrastructure. This is a hands-on role focused on uptime, reliability, and safe operation of essential equipment in a precision manufacturing environment.

You will be responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability of our critical systems—including air compressors, chillers, RO water systems, electrical panels, scrubbers, ventilation, CNC machinery, electrochemical machining (ECM) equipment, and their ancillary process systems. You will also support installation of new equipment, facility upgrades, refurbishment projects, and production infrastructure expansion as Voxel continues to grow.

This role is part-time / fractional (hours structured based on workload and preventative maintenance schedule) and is based in Knightdale, NC.
About You

You are mechanically and electrically strong, practical, and resourceful. You take pride in keeping complex systems running reliably and safely. You think in terms of root causes—not just quick fixes—and you prefer preventative maintenance over reactive firefighting.

You are comfortable working independently, organizing your own workload, and partnering with engineers and production team members in a highly technical environment. You know when something can be handled internally and when to escalate to certified specialists. You align with Voxel’s Core Values: Expect Excellence, Do Right By Others, Always Getting Better, What Would Happen If…

Job Description

  • Own Equipment & Facility Reliability
Ensure uptime of critical infrastructure and production systems (CNC, ECM, utilities including air, water, cooling, and electrical) through disciplined preventative maintenance and rapid troubleshooting.
  • Lead Preventative Maintenance & Failure Prevention
Build and execute PM programs, monitor system health, and proactively identify/resolve failure modes before they impact production.
  • Diagnose & Solve Complex Technical Issues
Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and fluid system problems across CNC and advanced manufacturing equipment, driving to root cause—not temporary fixes.
  • Install, Upgrade & Scale Production Infrastructure
Support installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of equipment, utilities, and facility systems as the company grows.
  • Drive Safe, High-Standard Maintenance Operations
Maintain strong safety practices (LOTO, chemical handling), coordinate with vendors when needed, manage critical spares, and partner with engineering/production to maximize reliability.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on maintenance experience in a manufacturing or technical production environment.
  • Direct experience maintaining CNC machinery required.
  • Experience maintaining advanced manufacturing systems strongly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills (rotating equipment, pumps, bearings, seals, alignment).
  • Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems and ability to safely inspect and diagnose equipment issues.
  • Familiarity with industrial fluid systems (coolant, water treatment, electrolyte systems).
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and CMMS systems preferred.
  • Strong judgment on when to escalate to OEMs or licensed/certified professionals.
  • OSHA/safety training preferred.
  • This position requires access to controlled information under U.S. export control laws. Therefore, applicants must be U.S. persons (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident).
  • Submittal of a brief cover letter describing relevant experience and interest in working at Voxel.

Voxel Innovations Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.  The above job description does not constitute a promise or guarantee of employment.
