Job description

Job Summary
Responsible for performing EKG's and ECG's as needed. Also responsible for hooking up event and Holter Monitors and processing the reports once returned to the department. Assist providers in performing Stress Test. Performs routine and complex EEG's according to graphic recordings as directed. Facilitates continuity of care by interfacing with physician, nursing, child life, and department staff. Ensures the effective and efficient delivery of quality diagnostic recording and reporting to the physician and the patients medical record.
Essential Functions
  • All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.
  • Performs high quality EKG's/ECG's and understands proper lead placement for good diagnostic quality readings. Able to recognize and make exception for noise level. Able to note physical problems that might alter interpretation.
  • Educates patients on EKG/EEG/stress testing procedures and performs EKG tracing component. Assists during stress test procedure.
  • Receives and processes EKG/ECG records. Corrects patient's data. Understands the process for crediting related functions.
  • Preps patient and applies Holter monitors to the patient with good quality test strips. Understand how to process and complete Holter monitors for proper reading.
  • Assists with ECHO stress procedures.
  • Scans physician's orders and other reports that are not interfaced into EMR into the medical record system.
  • Provides EKG/EDG support to other clinical areas. Assists with other procedures as needed.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments. Prepares the patient, explains the procedures and ensures patients cooperation during the examination.
  • Performs standard and complex electro neurodiagnostic procedures under general supervision. Extracts all relevant patient information from clinical history, patient, and progress notes. Explains the recording procedure to the patient and others present.
  • Adopts methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on history, clinical observations, and EEG finds.
  • Maintains complete and accurate record keeping, including patient data sheets, daily logs, and clinical follow-up.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education - Job Related course work beyond high school
  • Experience - One (1) year clinical healthcare experience. EKG/ECG experience preferred (may include clinical training)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment when minor technical problems occur.
  • Knowledge of operator's manual for EEG equipment.
  • Ability to monitor and relate ECHO stress information to physician and technologist
  • Knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient medical emergency and seizure onset situations.
  • Interpersonal skills with patients, patient family, technologists, physicians and other members of the health care team.
  • Medical terminology and anatomy preferred.
  • Electro neurodiagnostic studies preferred.
