The Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) provides direct care to individuals with behavioral health needs, assisting in the implementation of treatment plans and supporting clients in both individual and group settings. Under the supervision of licensed professionals, the BHT participates in crisis intervention, behavioral observations, and documentation while maintaining a safe, trauma-informed environment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensuring all client needs are met including but not limited to: meals provided provided, medications administered as prescribed, all documentation completed by the end of the shift (DAPs, communication log, monthly reports, QA’s and incident reports as needed);
  • Primary responsibilities - including helping them keep their room clean, monthly report and spending "primary time" each month;
  • Supervision (face to face/signs of life checks at least every 15 minutes, if not more frequently);
  • Ensuring the safety of all clients;
  • Conducting groups, activities and outings according to the milieu schedule/Residential Program Manager, or Group Leader directives;
  • Transportation to and from various appointments and activities (in company vehicles);
  • Prevent and de-escalate crisis according to Brighter Heights Arizona (BHAZ) policy and protocols;
  • Communicates effectively and respectfully with staff across all departments and levels, fostering collaboration, promoting a positive work environment, and ensuring consistent information sharing to support organizational goals.
  • Teaching and coaching in regards to life skills, independence and all other service plan goals for each client;
  • Be familiar with and follow client's individual service and safety plans;
  • Appropriate role modeling of physical appearance, social skills, professional words, actions, etc.;
  • Establish and maintain professional boundaries;
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks are completed;
  • Demonstrate emotional intelligence when de-escalating negative behavior;
  • Overnight staff must be awake at all times and are responsible for: printing DAP notes and communication logs, filing, archiving according to management’s direction; med tracking every night and email to the appropriate staff every night; inventory of 1st aid kits weekly; sending attendance to appropriate parties nightly; checking fridge/freezer temps nightly;
  • Additional duties as determined by your direct supervisor.
  • Plans with management and carries out scheduled groups with clients.
  • Meets weekly, at least, with assigned primary client(s). Also, helps clients set daily goals and supports them through their program.
  • Responsible for daily documentation of clients and specific reports pertaining to primary clients.
  • Responsible for primary client’s clinical chart condition including DAP completion, accuracy and substance.
  • Assist with Clinical Supervisions and Staff Meetings.
  • Maintains oral and written communication with staff, clients and others as requested. In essence, communication is vital to this position and is viewed as a direct reflection of the BHT (Behavioral Health Technician).
  • Adheres to BHAZ policy and practice concerning creation, editing, transmission, storage, and disposition of all Protected Health Information in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Upholds the Sanctuary Model by embodying the seven commitments and fostering a safe, supportive environment.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of Brighter Heights Arizona (BHAZ)
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Ability to obtain the Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Level One Card
  • Valid and Clear Arizona Driver’s License
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must pass a TB test
  • Individual judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills
  • Must be physically able to assist in AWOL searches and follow the AWOL policy and procedure
