About the Opportunity

The College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University invites applications for a non-tenure track part time faculty lecturer in Commerce & Economic Development.

This is an opportunity for experienced professionals and educators to contribute to Northeastern University's Master of Science in Commerce and Economic Development (MS CED) program, housed within the College of Professional Studies. The successful candidate will teach specialized graduate-level courses within this interdisciplinary program, which blends applied economics, finance, data analytics, and economic development themes. Teaching assignments support the core curriculum and various concentrations (such as Economic Analysis, Financial Economics, Data Analytics, Tech Innovation and Financial Analytics, Financial Risk Management, and Forensic Accounting). Instruction primarily occurs at our main Boston, MA campus, potentially including online or hybrid formats depending on program needs and course scheduling.

The College of Professional Studiesis one of ten colleges of Northeastern University, a nationally ranked private research university. Founded in 1960, the College provides lifelong experiential learning that unleashes the capacities of aspiring individuals in all stages and walks of life. The College teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students on campus and online in more than 90 programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate-level courses within the Commerce and Economic Development curriculum. Course topics may include applied micro/macroeconomics, econometrics, financial economics, economic development strategies, quantitative methods, data analysis for economic policy, international trade/finance, economics of innovation, risk analysis, or other related subjects, reflecting the program's interdisciplinary nature. Instruct courses primarily within the MS in Commerce and Economic Development program, focusing on advanced theories, practical applications, and quantitative techniques suitable for graduate students.

  • Engage students in rigorous academic discussions, case studies, research, and the practical application of relevant concepts.

  • Maintain course materials, provide timely feedback, and hold office hours as required.

Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (PhD or DBA) in Economics, Finance, or a closely related field (e.g., Applied Economics, Economic Development, Public Policy with quantitative focus) is strongly preferred. A Master's degree in a relevant field combined with substantial (5+ years), high-level, relevant professional experience will be considered.

  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in fields such as commerce, economic development, applied economics, finance, policy analysis, or data analytics is required. Substantial professional experience beyond this minimum, particularly in senior or specialized roles, is highly valued.

  • Within this context, prior teaching experience at the graduate level is strongly preferred; experience teaching advanced undergraduate courses or extensive professional training/mentoring experience also provides valuable background.

  • Relevant professional certifications or licensures (e.g., CFA, FRM, CPA, relevant policy or analytics certifications) are advantageous.

  • Experience with online or hybrid teaching modalities is desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to engage and support a diverse student body, reflecting the program's global appeal.
