Job description

MISSION : Accepts and implements the YWCA Mission to empower women and eliminate racism and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
CUSTOMER IMPACT STATEMENT : We are seeking a reliable and skilled Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Technician to assist with general building maintenance, repairs, custodial support, and light landscaping duties. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with basic facility maintenance tasks and the ability to work independently while supporting multiple departments as needed. This part-time position reports directly to the Facilities Director.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES (may include, but are not limited to):
Accountability / Priority Objectives
Provide quality general maintenance for internal and external of HLMC site.
  • Daily maintain outside area, removing all debris on sidewalks, curbs, playground, and adjoining yard areas.
  • Responsible for performing light maintenance in building, such as changing light bulbs, vacuuming vents, high/low dusting etc.
  • Perform routine facility maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assist with building upkeep including painting, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance.
  • Identify and report maintenance issues or safety concerns.
  • Strip, wax, buff floors; clean and extract carpet areas or furniture periodically.
  • Painting: Surface preparation and interior/exterior touch-up painting.
  • Light Carpentry: Minor repairs to doors, trim, shelving, and fixtures.
  • Basic Plumbing: Repair minor leaks, replace faucets, unclog drains, and other simple plumbing tasks.
  • Basic Electrical Knowledge: Replace light fixtures, switches, bulbs, and assist with minor electrical maintenance.
  • Assist with general cleaning duties when necessary.

Manage Support Operations.
  • Responsible for room set-ups and take-downs for functions.
  • Coordinate janitorial supply inventory, ordering and distribution.
  • Support facility cleanliness and sanitation standards.
  • Assist with trash removal and recycling as needed.
  • Landscaping & Outdoor Maintenance.
  • Perform light landscaping tasks, including basic grounds upkeep: Weeding/Mulching/Seasonal outdoor maintenance.
  • Place all program supply orders (Walmart / Target/Amazon, etc.) or donations in designated areas.
  • Responsible for participation in snow removal and be "on call" for same.

Ensure quality administrative support and communication.
  • Maintain necessary administrative records as required.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate records of time spent on projects and materials used.
  • Assure that hazardous items are out of reach of children.
  • Attend all required agencies and departmental meetings.

Other Duties (include but also as assigned):
Assist staff with special projects as necessary. Ensure maximum economy in the use of agency resources. Positively represent the program, agency, and participant needs to funders, employers, and the community at large.
Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Education: High School Diploma, Valid Driver's License
Experience:
Certificate from a trade school in a certified apprenticeship program and 1 year of relevant experience; or a minimum of two (2) years documented field experience. Experience in working in a residential or shelter setting is preferred, but not required.
Skills:
  • Experience in general building maintenance or handyman work preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong reliability and ability to work independently.
  • Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Able to perform all required custodial tasks and light maintenance.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.
  • Able to prioritize focus and manage time efficiently.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented with a positive attitude.

Physical Qualifications:
  • Sitting, standing, talking, hearing, reading, math, lifting 50 lbs. You must be able to work on ladders up to 12 ft.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at moderate heights when necessary.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
