Job description

Description Title: Lecturer (Astronomy) Position Number: Pending Hiring Unit: College of Natural and Health Sciences - Physics & Astronomy Location: UH Hilo Date Posted: May 23, 2026 Closing Date: Continuous Salary Information: Applicable Minimum for the Academic Year Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Lecturer applicant pool for Academic Year 2026 - 2027. Positions are part-time, temporary, non-tenure, and contingent upon course offerings, sufficient student enrollment, position clearance and availability of funding. Must be available to teach courses during the day, evening, weekend, and/or via distance learning, as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities Conduct lectures and/or laboratories for the Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Astronomy. Teach General Education lecture and/or laboratory astronomy courses offered by the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Maintain a minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.

Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in astronomy or a closely related field from an accredited institution Evidence of satisfactory teaching ability. Desirable Qualifications College-level astronomy teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level. Demonstrated high-quality teaching in a multicultural setting.
