Job description

The Darden School of Business has an opportunity for a part-time Distance Learning Support Technician to join its team in Charlottesville, VA. This position provides technical support for our live evening online learning programs including our professional degree program's distance learning classes. Working hours will occur between 5:30 PM and 9:30 PM, on Monday through Thursday.

  • Open to all UVA undergraduate and graduate students eligible for student employment.
  • This position is open to being a Federal Work Study position but it is not required.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Web Conferencing
    • Set up equipment and tests for primary and backup studios.
    • Record and post on-line classes to the learning management system.
    • Provide online class support to include live troubleshooting for remote students and faculty instructors and training to students between class sessions.
    • Proactively review software and hardware to seek ways to continually enhance the student and faculty experience.
    • Provide training to faculty in one-on-one sessions.
  • IT Support
    • Continually monitor and update studio and technician hardware and software.
    • Identify technologies that can make current infrastructure more efficient or could enhance future experiences.
    • Gather valuable feedback from our diverse clientele to see how technology improvements can offer solutions to current challenges.
  • Preferred qualification:
    • Experience supporting A/V equipment and on-line conferencing software.
    • Ability to setup/troubleshoot professional audio video equipment .
    • Skilled in troubleshooting Windows/Mac operating systems and mobile platforms.
    • Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
    • Excellent communications and customer service skills. The ability to communicate and teach technical features to a non-technical audience is critical.
    • Ability to manage multiple tech support conversations simultaneously.
    • Quickly learn and implement new technology processes and techniques.
    • Adeptly provide unique and/or creative solutions utilizing both technical abilities as well as project management.
  • Hourly rate: $15.00 - $17.00 based on experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
