JOB TITLE: .5 EL - English Language Learner Teacher
POSITION SUMMARY:
Byron Public Schools is seeking a .5 FTE ELL Teacher who is passionate about students who are working hard to improve their English Language capabilities. The English Learner teacher (EL) facilitates the implementation of best practice literacy instruction strategies at our elementary, middle, and high school sites, providing support to students and staff.
INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS:
1. Works with students by providing instruction that accelerates their social and academic English, provides access to grade level content, and increases overall achievement through collaboration and co-teaching.
2. Works in partnership with families to enhance student learning.
3. Coaches teachers in best practices in literacy instruction.
4. Facilitates the implementation of the WIDA and MN State Standards.
COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS:
1. Act as building liaison in responding to questions from administrators, teachers, and/or parents regarding the building's framework for literacy instruction
PRIMARY JOB POSTING:
To provide linguistically diverse learners with equitable access to cohesive learning opportunities that accelerate their social and academic English, provide access to grade level content, and increase their overall achievement through collaboration and co-teaching.
Primary Job Functions:
1. Must hold a current MN EL teaching license or be willing to attain proper licensure.
2. Knowledge, experience, training and willingness to foster and promote sheltered instruction and explicit language development in mainstream classrooms throughout the school.
3. Familiarity and working knowledge and application of both the WIDA and MN State Standards.
4. Preferred experience with co-teaching and/or sharing equal responsibility for planning, instructing, and assessing students.
5. Preferred experience using various approaches to co-teaching based on student needs.
6. Prefer experience, skills and ability in program development and coordination, organizational leadership, team-building and problem solving.
7. Prefer experience working with English Learners from various language backgrounds.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
1. Build capacity so that all teachers are equipped to design and deliver linguistically appropriate instruction all day, every day

4. Serve as a building resource for administrators and classroom teachers
5. Serve as an advocate for English Language Learners and their families

7. Model, support and promote rigorous instruction and high standards for ELs
8. Connect and collaborate with administrators, families and students
