IN-IVH-Part Time Dentist
Location: West Lafayette, IN 47906
About the Role
Join the dedicated care team at Indiana Veterans' Home as a part-time Dentist, providing essential dental services to our honored veterans. Work onsite 1-2 days per week (up to 8 hours total) in a rewarding environment focused on geriatric dental care. This role is ideal for a compassionate, skilled dentist seeking flexible hours and the opportunity to make a direct impact on the oral health and quality of life for elderly residents.
Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive dental care focused on age-related oral health issues, including Alzheimer's and other cognitive conditions
- Conduct initial oral assessments and interpret portable radiographs for accurate diagnoses
- Develop and oversee individualized daily mouth care plans, including fluoride applications and cleanings
- Perform fillings, treat periodontal disease, extract loose/decaying teeth, and repair or reline dentures
- Prescribe antibiotics or analgesics as needed, coordinating with medical staff to manage medication side effects such as dry mouth
- Utilize standardized assessment tools to evaluate residents' oral health and ensure regulatory compliance
- Educate nursing and caregiving staff on best practices for daily oral hygiene in residents with physical or cognitive decline
- Maintain strict compliance with CDC, OSHA, HIPAA, CMS, ISDH, and VA guidelines
Required Skills and Experience
- Current, unrestricted Indiana dental license
- 2+ years' experience in general dentistry (exams, cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, crowns)
- Expertise in geriatric dental care and age-related oral conditions (dry mouth, root caries, periodontal disease)
- Thorough knowledge of infection control standards and PPE protocols
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited institution
- Current CPR certification
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with dental implants and prosthodontics
- Previous experience in VA, military, or FQHC settings
- Experience with sedation dentistry or caring for patients with physical/cognitive disabilities
