Professionals in this role review dental records, verify documentation, and determine whether proposed treatments are covered under a patient's insurance. The position is typically remote, requires dental knowledge—often from a dental hygienist or dentist—and involves working flexible, part-time hours. It helps insurance companies manage costs and ensure patients receive appropriate care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Dental Utilization Review Specialist, and why are they important?

To excel as a Part Time Dental Utilization Review Specialist, you typically need a dental degree or dental hygiene certification, in-depth knowledge of dental procedures, and experience with insurance guidelines. Familiarity with dental claims management systems, CDT coding, and utilization review software is essential. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective written communication help you assess claims accurately and interact professionally with providers. These competencies ensure appropriate care authorization, cost control, and regulatory compliance within dental insurance operations.
