General Purpose
The typical hiring range for this position is $12.31 to $13.54 per hour, depending on experience.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine childcare duties in the drop-in daycare program at the Aquatics Center.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Daycare Specialist.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
May be assigned supervisory duties as needed.
Examples of Duties
Operates within the guidelines established by the state licensing department; watches and attends to children including, diapering, feeding/bottle feeding. Records and documents participant information.
Provides a clean, safe and fun care environment for children; checks children in and out while providing basic childcare; ensures safe play conditions and follows established security procedures when checking children out; observes safety procedures; performs daily cleaning, maintenance, and organizing of the childcare area.
Greets parents and children; orients parents regarding policies and procedures of care center and maintains positive rapport with parents and patrons; observes specific parent directions for feeding and special needs of children.
Plans and carries out summer camp activities and assists with the planning and participates in special events.
Provides first aid to injured children; completes accident reports; resolves problems and complaints and refers comments to supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate or equivalent and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above or related duties,

AND
  • Six (6) months childcare experience,

OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications:
  • Must pass a background investigation and fingerprint check.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers permit within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certifications within 60 days of hire and be able to maintain certification.
  • Must complete 10 hours of childcare training as required by the Department of Health Bureau of Licensing for the State of Utah within one (1) year of hire.

Additional Qualifications/Information
Essential Functions, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Some knowledge of basic childcare and feeding; understanding of infant and child development; health and medical care for children; public relations and communication skills.
Ability to work well with children and parents; be patient; move and react quickly to a variety of circumstances; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing; demonstrate good judgment and decision making; follow written and verbal instructions and/or procedures.
Work Environment:
The incumbent in the position performs in a climate-controlled environment. Tasks require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain such as walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, stooping, sitting, lifting, and reaching. Must frequently lift and/or move 20 to 50 pounds. Subject to call back in emergency situations.
