Job Summary:

The Regional Engineering Automation Lead role is core of Bechtel's data-centric execution strategy and digital delivery of the project’s Engineering BSAPs and SCPs, including 3D modeling, P&ID, Electrical and Instrumentation software, Inspec and BIM. The role is responsible for developing and implementing project Engineering Automation/BIM Plan in alignment with Engineering work-process, and Engineering deliverables (data and documents) for the Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls functions. He/she will work with the Project Engineering Management team, Project BIM Manager, Engineering Group Supervisors (EGS), Application Support Group, and I&D to develop Project Automation strategy, get it implemented and executed successfully. The role demands clear understanding of client requirements (both internal and external) and aligning Project Automation and BIM Execution Plans accordingly.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Acts as the Engineering Automation and BIM workstream lead, accountable for defining, delivering, and continuously improving the Project Engineering Automation / BIM Plan, including GBU‑level automation scope across all engineering disciplines (3D modeling, steel detailing, P&ID, Electrical & Instrumentation, interoperability, equipment data, and related engineering datasets).
  • Provides strategic direction and governance for engineering data deliverables supporting Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls, including Component Numbering Procedures, Project Integration Diagrams, and EDP 4.47 compliance.
  • Leads cross‑functional implementation of the project’s common data environment (e.g., BIM360, Inspec) and directs integration of Engineering Automation with Construction through Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) across engineering applications. Partners with Procurement, Construction, Startup, and Project Controls leadership to ensure seamless data flow, data quality, and alignment with EPC execution strategies.
  • Establishes and monitors engineering data quality and quantity metrics through executive‑level dashboards; conducts regular automation maturity assessments to evaluate effectiveness, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Engineering, IT, Application Support, PIIM, and Software Development teams, championing cross‑functional process improvements and ensuring consistent data delivery in accordance with the project data exchange plan.
Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience​

Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Familiarity with Hexagon (Smart3D, SPID, SPI, SIOP, etc.) and other associated (Tekla, Setroute, Inspec) authoring software, including features, functions, and limitations· Working knowledge of at least one of the Engineering software like Smart3D, Tekla, SPI, SPEL, SPF, SDx, INSPEC, and 3D model interoperability
  • Knowledge of engineering data exchange methodologies – extraction of data from authoring tools, data adaptors, EIS, staging data, use of APIs for data aggregation and distribution
  • Understanding of Advance Work Package automation requirements for each function
  • Understands project workflows from design, estimation, construction administration and coordination
  • Very good interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate well in a team environment
  • Proficient in oral and written communications skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and take on additional evolving responsibilities.
