Job description

The Bensenville Park District is seeking enthusiastic and qualified Group Fitness Instructors to lead Zumba and Matrix Cycling/Spin classes for our community. Instructors are responsible for planning and leading engaging group fitness sessions while educating participants on proper exercise techniques, fitness safety, and healthy lifestyle practices. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming, energetic, and motivating environment for participants of all fitness levels while promoting safe and effective workouts.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide a safe, energetic, and motivational environment for all class participants.
  • Lead engaging Zumba or Matrix Cycling/Spin classes that accommodate participants of different fitness levels.
  • Ensure participants use fitness equipment and props properly, emphasizing correct form and safety through cueing and observation.
  • Demonstrate proper posture, alignment, and technique, while offering modifications when needed.
  • Use music to support the intensity, flow, and enjoyment of the workout, ensuring lyrics are appropriate and free of explicit or offensive content.
  • Ensure the fitness area and cycling studio are clean and organized, and all equipment is properly stored before and after classes.
  • Represent the Bensenville Park District with professionalism and excellent customer service, maintaining a positive and welcoming attitude.
  • Arrive early to prepare the room, equipment, and music, and ensure classes begin and end on time.
  • Coordinate with the Fitness Supervisor regarding class scheduling, activities, and needed supplies.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Record class attendance before the class begins.
  • Arrange substitute instructors when unable to teach a scheduled class.
  • Communicate promptly with the Fitness Supervisor regarding any issues or concerns.
  • Complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Follow all Fitness Center and Group Fitness behavioral policies.

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
  • Zumba Instructor certification and/or Cycling/Spin certification required
  • National group fitness certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) preferred
  • Minimum one year of group fitness teaching experience
  • Ability to safely conduct fitness classes and activities
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of instruction including leading classes, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting equipment
