Department Overview

This role involves working within the Bariatrics department, with a focus on adult tube feeding requirements. While a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential is preferred, it is not mandatory.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Design, implement, and deliver dietary interventions, medical nutrition therapy, and preventive counseling for individuals and groups across various settings, including primary and specialty care, acute care, skilled nursing, outpatient, and community environments.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy services and oversee the nutritional care of clients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics, as assigned.
  • Assess nutritional status through comprehensive evaluations, create personalized care plans, and recommend provider orders while implementing nutrition therapy, including diet modifications and oral nutrition supplements.
  • Educate and counsel clients on managing diseases and nutrition-related risks, while evaluating the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy interventions.
  • Support self-management education for clients with chronic conditions, considering cultural, ethnic, and religious dietary needs.
  • Develop and refine nutrition care protocols for the designated area and lead the healthcare team in executing nutrition therapies.
  • Provide dietary education tailored to specific medical conditions and health risks.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends and techniques to enhance care plans and educational materials.
  • Assist in customizing clinical education resources for clients, families, and caregivers.
  • Ensure quality control and uphold high standards regarding infection control for safety.
  • Be mindful of individual insurance coverage and reimbursement situations, participating in clinical performance improvement initiatives, including research on new treatments or procedures.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in dietetics or food and nutrition from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). *(Note: As of January 1, 2024, a master's degree will be required for those taking the registration exam to become a dietitian.)
  • Clinical nutrition experience through an accredited undergraduate program or successful completion of a postgraduate internship is essential.
  • Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) license in the relevant state(s).
  • Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required.
  • For applicable states, individuals awaiting their CDR exam may be considered with a temporary/limited permit nutritionist license, allowing two attempts within three months of employment.
