Requirements: Non-smoker, reliable transportation, up-to-date on vaccinations (COVID & Flu), able to pass a background check, comfortable with pets
Proposed Schedule: Flexible for the right candidate. Someone with availability for back up childcare and occasional overnight stays with the kids (given significant notice) is valued!
Description
We are a kind family of four including two teens (13-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy), a small dog, and two beloved guinea pigs. We are looking for a warm, detail-oriented, and proactive House Manager & Family Assistant to help our home run smoothly. Our life rhythm has shifted significantly because of personal family events and this role is meant to bring order, support, and calm amidst that change. We are also a neurodivergent family and appreciate assistance that is collaborative in the understanding of our needs!
The right person for this role will feel like an extension of our family. You'll be supporting both parents (especially mom, who currently manages many moving parts), helping with household systems and tidiness, food prep, pet care, and occasional driving to/from school or appointments. You should enjoy working with families, bring strong initiative, and come with a no-judgment, solutions-focused attitude. We're a quirky and caring household, and we'd love to find someone who "gets it" and contributes their own good energy and thoughtfulness.
Key Responsibilities
Household Management & Organization
  • Help to create and maintain household organization systems (closets, storage, pantry, bathroom supplies, etc.)
  • Reset and tidy common spaces daily
  • Ensure home is prepared for weekly cleaning service (e.g., swap out pillowcases, straighten up surfaces)
  • Conduct seasonal swaps (clothing, bedding, gear)
  • Support packing/unpacking for travel and school transitions
  • Take out garbage/recycling
  • Loading/unloading the dishwasher
  • Light dishwashing, surface wiping, and vacuuming in high-traffic areas
  • Coordinate donation pickups and prepare drop-offs
  • Maintain indoor plants
  • Supervise or coordinate vendors and service professionals (e.g., handymen, landscapers)
  • Take part in assisting with household projects as needed
Errands & Inventory Management
  • Track and restock pantry, fridge, toiletries, cleaning products, etc.
  • Create and manage running household supply lists
  • Handle household and online orders (Amazon, Costco, Target, etc.)
  • Run errands including grocery shopping, returns, gift shopping, prescriptions, and dry cleaning
  • Sort and manage mail, deliveries, and package returns
  • Break down boxes and maintain organized entry areas
Meal Planning & Preparation
  • Assist with weekly dinner planning (in collaboration with mom)
  • Prepare 2-3 simple, healthy family dinners per week given guidance and recipes (picky eaters and meat-free preferences considered)
  • Make family-friendly staples in batches (e.g., pancakes for freezing)
  • Support the family goal of eating at home 4-5 nights/week
  • Grocery shopping for meal ingredients and pantry staples
  • Help to clear out the fridge weekly
  • Clean up post-meal prep; maintain general kitchen tidiness
Laundry & Linen Care
  • Wash, dry, fold, and organize family laundry (clothing, towels, bedding)
  • Iron/steam clothing and prep school or work outfits for the week
  • Refresh bathroom linens (e.g., towels and rugs) and replace pillowcases as needed
  • Keep laundry areas clean and well-stocked
  • Handle delicate items with care
Pet Care
  • Walk and occasionally feed the family dog (30-lb miniature Bernedoodle)
  • Schedule and accompany dog to vet and grooming appointments
  • Keep pet supplies stocked and organized
Transportation & Vehicle Management
  • Assist with occasional school/activity drop-offs and pick-ups (mileage reimbursed)
  • Ensure vehicles are fueled, clean, and maintained (e.g., oil changes, service appointments)
  • Support logistics and errands requiring local travel
Vendor and Property Oversight
  • Research and coordinate repairs, maintenance, and quotes
  • Oversee outdoor spaces and seasonal maintenance needs
  • Serve as primary contact for certain vendors and projects
Deep Cleaning & Special Projects
  • Occasional deep cleaning tasks (fridge, oven, humidifiers, air purifiers, washing machine)
  • Maintain and refresh entryways, garage, and mudroom
  • Manage seasonal decorations, gear rotations, and project-based home tasks
Administrative & Family Support
  • Help with scheduling/rescheduling appointments and providing reminders (especially for medical needs)
  • Manage shared family calendars and logistics
  • Support mom in creating and refining sustainable home systems
  • Be a kind, respectful, and steady presence for the kids- whether supervising or simply being available to talk with them
  • Collaborate with the parents as a partner in managing life's logistics and little things
Child Care Aspects
  • Assist with school drop-offs (and perhaps occasional pick ups, especially if there are competing appointments)
  • Help in prepping backpacks/lunches for school
  • Have a hand in child related errands and organizational tasks
  • Provide patience and enthusiasm to children who are usually eager to interact about their interests
  • Be open to occasional overnight supervision of children (with ample notice)

Ideal Candidate
We're looking for someone who is:
  • Proactive: Sees what needs to be done and does it without needing direction
  • Organized & Detail-Oriented: Keeps things running smoothly with strong attention to the little things
