Position: Part-Time Cook
Location: Aliya of Palos Park
Department: Dietary / Food Services
Employment Type: Part-Time
SUMMARY
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving quality meals in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, established facility policies and procedures, and the direction of the Dietitian and/or Director of Food Services. The Cook helps ensure that residents receive nutritious, safe, and properly prepared meals that meet their individual dietary needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Review menus and planned meals prior to food preparation.
  • Prepare meals according to established menus, standardized recipes, and special diet requirements.
  • Follow all food preparation, sanitation, storage, and safety procedures.
  • Ensure meals are prepared and served in a timely manner.
  • Prepare regular and therapeutic diets as directed.
  • Coordinate food preparation and meal service with dietary and other facility departments.
  • Work with the Dietitian and Director of Food Services to implement recommended dietary changes.
  • Ensure appropriate food and supplies are available for meal preparation.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen and food preparation area.
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures, as well as applicable health and food service regulations.
  • Assist with special meals, snacks, and substitutions as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services or Dietitian.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Previous dietary, food service, restaurant, hospital, nursing facility, or healthcare food service experience preferred but not required.
  • State Food Service Sanitation certification required.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safe food-handling practices.
  • Ability to follow menus, recipes, dietary instructions, and established procedures.
  • Ability to read, speak, and write English in an understandable manner.
  • Must demonstrate reliability, flexibility, personal integrity, and a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to work effectively with residents, staff, families, and visitors.
  • Must be able to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
