Summary and Purpose of the Position: Reporting to the Director of Learning Support Systems, Professional Tutors are staff who work with students to help them to develop effective learning strategies and to become self-regulated learners. These tutors help students with discipline-specific content.

Function of Position:

  • Foster the development of independent, intentional learners
  • Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty
  • Collaborate with faculty on providing workshops and in setting tutoring expectations
  • Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook
  • Promote critical thinking and problem solving
  • Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content
  • Help students understand our learning management system (Brightspace)
  • Prepare students for exams and quizzes

Secondary Functions:

  • Visit classrooms, as needed, to introduce students to tutoring.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Science
  • Experience working with diverse college populations
  • Technology savvy

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some tutoring experience

Additional Information:

Pay rate is determined by candidate's degree:

Bachelor's Degree - $17/hr

Master's Degree - $19/hr

PhD - $21.00
