Job description

Kitchen Assistant (Part-Time)

The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Supervisor with food preparation, maintaining clean and sanitary areas of food service and serving daily meals to our guests.

Reports to: Kitchen Supervisor

Hours/Shift: 11am-7pm Friday, Saturday & Monday

Pay: $16.82 per hour

General Responsibilities
Adhere to ServSafe standards and best practices for safe food handling and preparation while in compliance with safety regulations/procedures at all times. Proficiency in operating kitchen equipment and following recipes. Maintaining the cleanliness of kitchen, including but not limited to walls, floors, work areas and dining spaces. Preserving the working order and cleanliness of kitchen equipment. Cleaning and disposing of kitchen waste and rubbish correctly. Reporting any/all equipment malfunctions to Kitchen Manager to arrange for repair/replacement. Attending staff meetings and trainings, as required. Communicating need to know information with incoming staff upon shift changes.

Skill/Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a cook or in a related role required
  • Validated knowledge of the basic principles of food preparation, various cooking methods, and food safety regulations such as accurate food handling, sanitation, and storage
  • Must be able to acquire food safety certification
  • Demonstrate basic math and counting skills
  • Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, with a team oriented disposition
  • Must possess basic computer skills (internet and email)

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently required to bend/kneel; walk/climb stairs
  • Use of hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls
  • Able to regularly lift up to 25 pounds consistently, occasionally lift over 30 pounds
  • Spend long periods of time on feet
