As of Jul 3, 2026, the average yearly pay for part time computational chemical engineering in the United States is $135,168.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $125,000.00 and $148,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Computational Chemical Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Computational Chemical Engineer, you typically need a background in chemical engineering, mathematics, and computer science, often supported by a relevant degree. Experience with simulation software (such as Aspen Plus or COMSOL), coding languages (like Python or MATLAB), and data analysis tools is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential soft skills for collaborating on complex projects and conveying technical findings. These skills and qualifications enable efficient modeling, analysis, and optimization of chemical processes, which are critical to driving innovation and efficiency in the field.

What are part-time computational chemical engineers?

Part-time computational chemical engineers are professionals who use computer-based modeling, simulation, and data analysis to solve problems in chemical engineering, but who work fewer hours than full-time employees, often on a flexible or project-based schedule. They may assist with research, process optimization, or product development in industries such as pharmaceuticals, energy, or materials science. These roles typically require strong skills in chemistry, mathematics, and computer programming, as well as proficiency in specialized software tools. Part-time positions can be ideal for students, researchers, or professionals seeking work-life balance.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect in a part-time computational chemical engineering role?

In a part-time computational chemical engineering position, you will typically be involved in supporting research or development projects that require modeling, simulation, and analysis of chemical processes. Your daily tasks may include running simulations using software like Aspen Plus or MATLAB, analyzing data, and preparing technical reports or presentations for the team. Collaboration is often virtual or flexible, and you'll work closely with full-time engineers and researchers to meet project milestones. This role offers valuable experience with cutting-edge tools and methodologies, and can be a stepping stone to more advanced or full-time positions in the field.

What is the difference between Part Time Computational Chemical Engineering vs Part Time Chemical Process Engineering?

AspectPart Time Computational Chemical EngineeringPart Time Chemical Process Engineering
Required CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering or related field; proficiency in simulation softwareBachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering; focus on process design and optimization
