About the Opportunity

Job Summary

We invite applications for Part-time Lecturer (PTL) positions at the graduate level. We seek a colleague with expertise in bioinformatics and computational genomics to teach BIOL 6216 Applied Bioinformatics for the Cell and Gene Therapy Master's Programs, depending on program needs and enrollment. This course introduces foundational bioinformatics concepts, computational techniques, and programming skills essential for analyzing genomic and sequencing data, particularly in the context of genetic modification and therapeutic genome editing.

Key Responsibilities

The Part-time Lecturer will review and learn key teaching points within existing instructor guides and materials, prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises based on provided course content, and facilitate in-person or online class discussions that encourage active learning and respectful debate. They will guide students through bioinformatics analyses in the context of genetic modification and therapeutic genome editing, including sequencing data interpretation and computational workflows, provide timely feedback, grading, and coaching to support student learning, and maintain consistent engagement with students regarding their performance and progress; and adhering to Northeastern's policies.

Part-time instructors work under the direction of the program director and will hold office hours as appropriate

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field, and have at least three to five years of experience in bioinformatics, preferably in a therapeutic or research setting. They should have demonstrated experience teaching or supporting graduate-level courses, particularly in bioinformatics or genomic data analysis, and possess strong programming skills in languages commonly used in bioinformatics, such as Python and R. Candidates should also have experience with genomic data analysis tools and platforms, including NGS pipelines, RNA-seq, or variant calling, and a strong understanding of cell and gene therapy concepts and applications. Effective communication skills, an open and supportive teaching style, and prior experience in a diverse higher education environment are also highly desirable.
