JOB SUMMARY

The Radiology Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the x-ray equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited Radiology program.

Experience: 2 years of experience in diagnostic radiology preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure:

ARRT or registry eligible required. Registry eligible technologist must successfully complete the ARRT certification exam in Radiology within 12 months of hire. Applicable state licensure as required.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Thorough knowledge of radiographic equipment and accessories. Analytical ability and basic computer skills. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s) age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Good communication skills, capable of functioning alone in diagnostic rooms, working knowledge of various types of x-ray equipment, able to adapt to various situations and procedures. Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.

  • Patient Care: Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.
    • Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.
    • Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients' arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.
    • Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.
    • Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process.
  • Compliance: Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required.
    • Cleans examination surfaces between patients.
    • Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.
    • Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.
    • Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use.
  • Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.
    • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
    • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
  • Technical Competency: Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
    • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
    • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
    • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
    • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
    • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical Demand Code: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is  $34.00  - $42.90 hourly.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.  Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
