JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Attendant provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others in accordance with facility policies and procedures; reports needs and concerns to licensed nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Previous hospital experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure:
N/A
Additional Skills/Requirements Required:
Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing as applicable. Is knowledgeable regarding guidelines for infection control, body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics. Maintains acceptable standards set by those guidelines. Completes a de-escalation class within 90 days of hire.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred:
Ability to work with elderly patients or act as a companion.
Competencies:
  • Patient Care: Provides and documents assistance to patients under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse.
    • Assists/provides patient care throughout the entire patient experience under the direct supervision of the physician and/or the registered nurse.
    • Assists in room turnaround, including appropriate cleaning of equipment, supplies, and environment.
    • Organizes supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Nursing Expertise: Assists with patient care while complying with Department, Hospital, and Regulatory policies and procedures.
    • Understands concepts of sterile and non-sterile techniques.
    • Adheres to safety measures.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical Demand Code:
Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is $16.00 - $20.05 hourly.
Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
