Job description
Assistant Band Director (Part-Time)
Rhetoric and Logic School
Classification:ย ย ย Exempt
Reports To:ย ย ย ย Fine Arts Director
Purpose
The purpose of this position is to instruct students in 6th through 12th grades in musical performing arts through band, and in foundational and advanced music theory using classical methods and a Biblical worldview in order to prepare students with excellence to celebrate Godโs truth, knowledge and wisdom through music.
Summary
The Band Director provides instruction to two distinct student groups: Logic School (6th through 8th grades) and Rhetoric School (9th through 12th grades) in band. Coordinate pep bands for home football games and basketball playoffs. Music theory is reserved for Rhetoric School students.
Logic School:ย The teacher capitalizes on middle school studentsโ natural tendency to question and test what they are learning. Building upon the foundational knowledge acquired in Grammar School (stage 1 of theย trivium), the teacher is expected to lead students as they challenge the truth, goodness and beauty of Godโs world through methods consistent with the second stage of the classical approach to learning known as theย logicย stage. The instruction is deliberately structured to encourage development of critical and abstract thinking skills.
Rhetoric School:ย The teacher provides instruction in an educational environment where students defend a love for Godโs created order as they explain the truth, goodness and beauty of His world through methods consistent with the third stage of the classical approach to learning known as theย rhetoricย stage. The focus here is on teaching students how to form clear, eloquent arguments, and to communicate and defend these ideas via a written and oral thesis at the end of the senior year.ย ย ย ย
Regardless of the age group taught, the Band Director will lead, instruct, disciple, and mentor students in a manner consistent with the Schoolโs Statement of Faith and the Portrait of a Geneva Teacher. The teacher will purposefully partner with parents in the education and spiritual development of their children. The Band Director will partner collegially with other School employees and will actively pursue intellectual and professional development.
Supervision Received and Exercised

The instructor must exercise judgment that is in keeping with the schoolโs philosophy of education, beliefs, and values, and with the approved curriculum. The Band Director will guide the Assistant Band Director in their program and will exercises functional supervision over students and the classroom environment.
