Duties and Responsibilities
1. Teach up to three (3) 1st-year composition classes on campus, in-person.
2. Grade papers, provide feedback to students, and answer emails or other communications in a timely fashion.
3. Use the assigned Blackboard site for the dissemination of materials, receiving and grading assignments, and other activities.
4. Adhere to assignment workload, range of readings, grading policies, and other general requirements for the course as prescribed in the common syllabus.
5. Attend monthly meetings with the Composition Program Coordinator.
6. Reports to the Department Chair.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
The Department of Language, Literature, and Cultural Studies is seeking qualified and experienced instructors for our 1st-year composition courses. Minimum qualifications include an M.A. in English or Rhetoric and Composition (Ph.D. a plus).
Experience
At least two (2) years teaching composition at the university or collegiate level; and experience using Blackboard or other LMS.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Applicants must be willing to teach within a prescribed syllabus under the direction of the Composition Coordinator and Department Chair; comply with USM/BSU COVID-19 policies; willing and able to come to campus and teach in-person; authorized to work in the U.S. and not require visa sponsorship; and able to teach within a schedule of available classes. Applicants should be committed to the mission and core values of Bowie State University.
