Job description

Crete United is a nationwide network of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing companies focused on building stronger businesses, supporting our people, and delivering exceptional service to our customers. We are seeking an experienced Part-Time Accountant to join the Crete United team and provide dedicated accounting support to one of our partner companies, Emerald Built Environments.

This position will support daily accounting activities, month-end close, financial reporting, and project-related accounting. The role is well suited for a detail-oriented accounting professional who can work independently, identify discrepancies, and confidently respond to questions from operational and financial leaders.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Viewpoint Spectrum, general ledger accounting, bank reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation. Experience within construction, mechanical services, or another project-based business is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enter and review daily banking transactions
  • Record bank-related payroll entries
  • Enter daily cash sweeps and intercompany transactions
  • Record and maintain prepaid expenses and related amortization schedules
  • Enter and reconcile transactions from Ramp
  • Prepare and record monthly accruals, including project-related accruals
  • Reconcile all bank accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Prepare occasional ACH payments and support the ACH approval process
  • Review accounting activity and reclassify incorrect or improperly coded entries
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation
  • Prepare and review preliminary and final monthly financial statements
  • Analyze income statement trends and identify unusual activity or variances
  • Participate in monthly forecasting meetings and FP&A calls
  • Research and respond to questions involving jobs, financial results, and accounting activity
  • Partner with operational leaders to support accurate job-cost and financial reporting
  • Assist with training, accounting procedures, and the development of standard operating procedures
  • Complete ad hoc accounting projects and reporting requests as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Hands-on experience using Viewpoint Spectrum
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, accruals, journal entries, and month-end close
  • Experience preparing financial statements and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience with job costing or project-based accounting strongly preferred
  • Experience with Ramp or a similar expense-management platform is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to identify, research, and correct accounting discrepancies
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and meet monthly deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
