Job description

Job Summary: Provide for the care, safety, nurturing, and cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of the children attending the Childcare Center for (Infant to pre-school age). Implement Biblical, educational, and recreational curriculum and activities, customizing according to age and developmental levels of children.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide for the care, safety, nurturing, and cognitive, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of the children attending the Childcare Center for (Infant to pre-school age) by adhering to the minimum standards for childcare as required by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services-Childcare Regulation Division.
  2. Effectively teach the biblical and educational curriculum daily to the children attending the early childhood program, supporting each childโ€™s learning with hands on activities and application of the curriculum to meet the different learning styles and developmental needs of individual children.
  3. Implement the weekly lesson plans and program components to be age and developmentally appropriate for the classroom.
  4. Conduct individual assessment of social and emotional skills and provide for the cognitive and physical stimulation of the children, adjusting for age level and developmental stages.
  5. Provide for the childrenโ€™s daily needs, including frequent diaper changing or toileting, appropriate feeding, and hygiene.
  6. Provide support and encouragement both in the classroom and outside of the classroom for all children and their families.
  7. Be able to respond calmly to a childโ€™s emotional needs and/or redirect challenging behavior from a biblical perspective. Provide one-on-one guidance and redirection to children presenting challenging behaviors.
  8. Complete all required paperwork, including childrenโ€™s daily logs, childrenโ€™s roster, diaper changes, and meal counts.
  9. Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized learning environment for the children in the classroom.

Other Job Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
  2. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Skills & Experience: Associateโ€™s degree or 2-years of college credits from an accredited college or university with one-year experience working in a licensed childcare center, preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must pass a criminal background check and finger printing. Valid Texas Driverโ€™s License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance. Knowledge and basic ability in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel) required.

Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral, conflict resolution skills, and classroom management skills. Must maintain a positive attitude and be able to create a good impression commanding attention, respect and confidence from children and parents. Strong planning and organizational skills. Possess a genuine interest and concern for the welfare of young children. Proven problem-solving ability and able to work in a team. Must complete a minimum of 24 hours of staff development per year as required by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women, and children.

Equipment Used: General Office Supplies (Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc.), Computer Equipment (Monitor, Keyboard, etc.), and Copier/Fax/Printer, Cleaning Supplies, and Arts and crafts supplies. Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Work Environment: Work schedule may vary and be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission, including evenings, weekends, and holiday schedules. Classroom environment with outdoor playground time as weather permits. Infrequent or occasional travel between facilities and infrequent or occasional travel within the city. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required as needed for completion of tasks. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal. Business casual dress in accordance with the Star of Hope dress code.

Relations with Others: Constant contact with clients. Frequent contact with immediate peers. Occasional contact with peers in other departments, immediate Manager, Managers in other departments, volunteers, and other agencies. Constant face to face discussion with individuals. Frequent use of electronic mail. Occasional telephone conversations and written letters and memos.

Physical Requirements: Medium work with lifting of up to 50 pounds. Constant standing, talking, hearing, close vision at 20 inches, distance vision at 20 feet or more, field of vision and depth perception. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, use of fingers, repetitive motions, handling, and color vision. Occasional climbing, balancing, crawling, sitting, pushing, pulling, feeling, lifting, tasting/smelling, driving, and night vision.
