Job description

Part-Time Ballroom Dance Teacher/Extracurricular Ballroom Program Director
American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are seeking a part-time teacher to lead a movement-based course designed to help students build confidence, explore different forms of physical activity, and develop lifelong wellness habits. This course emphasizes inclusive, exploratory movement rather than competition, making it an excellent option for students of all ability levels.
Nature of the Role This position is considered a faith-forming role within American Heritage School. In addition to dance instruction, teachers are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Qualifications Candidates should have a minimum of two years of experience, preferably in a formal school setting. Successful candidates will demonstrate an enduring love of youth and a genuine passion for teaching and learning, as well as a commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to foster meaningful relationships with youth, a strong work ethic, and attention to detail.
Faith and Mission Responsibilities In addition to teacher responsibilities, teachers at AHS are expected to integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into classroom instruction where appropriate, serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students, support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues, participate in school-wide devotionals, prayer, and other faith-centered activities, and respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission.
Professional Expectations Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.
Teaching Responsibilities The ballroom dance instructor will teach engaging, skill-based classes for middle and high school students in a before-school setting (7:20-8:10 a.m., most mornings), developing students' technique, confidence, and enjoyment of dance across a range of ability levels. The instructor will plan and deliver a structured curriculum in various ballroom styles, create a positive and inclusive learning environment, assess student progress, and prepare students for performances as appropriate. In addition, the instructor will organize and lead the overall ballroom program by coordinating schedules, managing logistics, and fostering a strong program culture, while actively recruiting and retaining students through outreach, collaboration, and promotion within the school community.
Communication and Organization Candidates should demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear instruction, modeling, and feedback in a movement-based classroom setting. Effective candidates will establish consistent and purposeful class routines, communicate with students, parents, and colleagues in ways that are timely, collaborative, precise, and positive, and clearly track and report student progress in both skill development and performance. The role also requires strong organizational skills to coordinate classes, rehearsals, performances, and program logistics, as well as the ability to effectively promote the program and recruit students. Experience working with students with specific learning needs is helpful but not required.
Extracurricular Opportunities Applicants are encouraged to share any interest or experience in supporting AHS extracurricular athletics programs. AHS prefers to fill coaching and activity roles with employees who have both the interest and skills to mentor students in these areas.
Position Details This position is available for the 2026-2027 school year.
Important Note to Applicants AHS is a mission-driven, faith-centered school. Employment at AHS requires alignment with and support of the school's religious mission and values. Individuals who are unable or unwilling to support these expectations should carefully consider whether this position is a good fit.
