Group Fitness Instructor - Job Description
Job Title: Group Fitness Instructor
Department: Fitness / Wellness
Reports To: Fitness Manager or General Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time / Part-Time / Contract
Position Summary
We are seeking an energetic, motivational, and knowledgeable Group Fitness Instructor to lead safe, effective, and engaging fitness classes for members of varying fitness levels. The ideal candidate is passionate about health and wellness, creates a positive class environment, and helps members achieve their fitness goals through high-quality instruction and encouragement.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead group fitness classes such as HIIT, strength training, cycling, yoga, bootcamp, dance fitness, Pilates, or other specialty formats
  • Design and deliver safe, effective, and engaging workouts for participants of all fitness levels
  • Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and provide modifications as needed
  • Motivate and encourage class participants while fostering a welcoming environment
  • Arrive early to prepare equipment, music, and class setup
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of fitness studios and equipment
  • Monitor participant safety and respond appropriately to emergencies or injuries
  • Build positive relationships with members and support member retention
  • Stay current on fitness trends, certifications, and industry best practices
  • Promote fitness programs, events, and membership offerings as needed
  • Must be willing to work Morning, Evenings and Weekends
Qualifications
  • Current nationally recognized group fitness certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, Les Mills, etc.)
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
  • Previous group fitness instruction experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lead high-energy classes and engage diverse groups
  • Knowledge of exercise science, anatomy, and injury prevention
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to actively lead fitness classes for extended periods
  • Ability to demonstrate exercises and movements safely
  • Ability to lift and move fitness equipment when necessary
  • Comfortable working in a physically active environment
Preferred Skills
  • Specialty certifications in yoga, cycling, Pilates, barre, dance fitness, or strength training
  • Experience with member engagement and community building
  • Social media or fitness promotion experience is a plus
