Job description

Part-Time Aides Overview
Beginning in school year 2012-13, schools have been able to utilize a newly created position called Part-Time Aide. This position can be used to assist with the supervision of students during non-instructional activities before, during, and/or after the school day. Part-Time Aides can work for the school, but for no longer than 3.75 hours each day.
Part Time Aides Duties
Some examples of duties that can be performed by Part-Time Aides include assisting with supervision of students:
  • During lunch and/or recess period(s)
  • During study halls (to only be held during non-instructional minutes)
  • During in-school suspensions
  • During student entry/exit
  • In and around the school building

Part-Time Aides cannot take on the duties of other clearly defined school-based positions, including but not limited to teacher's assistants, instructional assistants, special education classroom assistants, children's welfare attendants, security guards or aides, clerks, etc.
Part Time Aides QUALIFICATIONS
Part-Time Aides must have the following qualifications:
  • High school degree or GED equivalent (required)
  • One year of experience in the supervision of children in an organized setting (preferred)
  • Ability to work with and for school children
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to learn and follow school and district policies, procedures, and expectations.

Part Time Aides BUDGETING
Schools must fund Part-Time Aides out of their discretionary funds. Part-Time Aides must be paid at their contract hour rates ($14.66/hour, effective July 1, 2013). Schools will be responsible for paying Medicaid/Medicare and FICA costs, but do not need to pay for other benefits as this is not a benefits eligible position.
