Lake Mead Christian Ministries (LMCM) Minister- Substitute Teacher
Job Type: Part Time
Department: Education (Lake Mead Christian Academy)
Reports to: Elementary, Middle School, and/or High School Principal
Compensation: $15/hour
Job Summary: A substitute school teacher is responsible for the well-being and safety of the students, taking attendance, maintaining a functioning classroom, utilizing classroom management skills, leaving a clean classroom, and teaching the provided curriculum. Other duties may include enforcing classroom and school rules, observing and evaluating student performance, and grading homework and tests.

  • Demonstrates spiritual flourishing through prayer, Bible study, and outreach to others

Essential Job Functions:
  • Creates an environment conducive to learning, while upholding the core LMCA values of Love, Security, Quality, Accessibility, and Stewardship
  • Supervises the classroom of an absent teacher
  • Ensures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom
  • Follow the teacher's instructions for the lesson plan, or create a lesson plan if none is available
  • Records attendance according to school procedure
  • Assign homework according to the lesson plan
  • Supplement the lesson plan with other classroom activities, if time allows
  • Maintains discipline in the classroom and fosters a safe, productive learning environment following school policies
  • Compiles a report for the teacher that includes student attendance, lesson-plan progress, disciplinary actions, and positive developments
  • Updates personal and contact information with the Office
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom (straightens chairs and tables, clears whiteboard, etc.)
  • Indicates to students, at the beginning of class, the basic expectations for behavior in the class per LMCM policy
  • Knows & understands emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned
  • Knows & understands procedures for referring students who have disciplinary problems
  • Knows & understands school procedures and regulations
  • Maintains maximum availability to accept assignments
  • Executes lesson plans consistent with teacher guidelines and school curriculum
  • Establishes an orderly classroom environment and provides a positive learning experience

Qualifications:
  • Flexibility and patience in scheduling
  • Confidence and proficiency in giving instruction
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in education - preferred

Experience:
  • Classroom experience preferred
  • Computer Skills (word processing skills, Google suite, electronic presentation skills, internet navigation skills, email management, etc.)
