What is a part time Christian counselor?

Part time Christian counselors are professionals who provide counseling services grounded in Christian beliefs and values, typically working less than full-time hours. They help clients address emotional, spiritual, and psychological issues while integrating biblical principles into the counseling process. Part time Christian counselors may work in churches, private practices, nonprofit organizations, or online, offering support to individuals, couples, or families. Their approach combines standard counseling techniques with faith-based guidance to help clients find healing and growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time Christian counselor?

To thrive as a Part Time Christian Counselor, you need a background in counseling or psychology, with proper licensure and a strong understanding of Christian principles. Familiarity with client management software and, in some cases, certifications like Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent are typically required. Active listening, empathy, and strong communication skills help build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds. These skills and qualities are crucial for providing effective, faith-based support that addresses clients' emotional and spiritual needs.

What are some common challenges part time Christian counselors face when balancing client needs and maintaining healthy boundaries?

Part Time Christian Counselors often work with clients experiencing deep personal or spiritual struggles, which can make it challenging to maintain clear professional boundaries, especially when clients seek support outside of scheduled sessions. Balancing compassion and empathy with appropriate boundaries is essential to avoid burnout and ensure ethical practice. Counselors typically rely on supervision, peer consultation, and self-care routines to manage these challenges effectively. Setting clear expectations with clients about availability and confidentiality from the outset helps foster a healthy therapeutic relationship.

Job description

Description

At Christian Family Solutions, we are committed to healing and helping people in need with the same excellence and unconditional love that Jesus Christ demonstrated in His ministry. It is our goal to help clients feel welcomed, safe, and supported within our family of care. Click here to view a video about us. When someone is called to a career with a strong sense of purpose, it's more than a job. It's a vocation.

What you will be doing:

Christian Family Solutions is actively seeking counselors who are members of a WELS or ELS congregation and have a strong desire to learn more about integrating Christian counseling practices based on these principles. ย This part-time School-Based Therapist role provides services at First German Lutheran School in Manitowoc, WI (one day per week), and St. Marks' Lutheran School in Green Bay, WI (one day per week) through our School Partnership Program. ย Our school partnership program is a customized and comprehensive way for schools to assist in meeting the emotional or psychological needs of their students by providing them with convenient, affordable services. In this school-based therapist role, you will not only provide clinical therapy, but also work collaboratively with school staff and parents to support student's academic, social, emotional and/or behavioral support by creating and assisting with school-based intervention plans.

This position would begin in August 2026. Hours for this role will generally be 8:00am-4:00pm. Based on which school locations you are willing to serve, you have the opportunity to work between 8-16 hours per week during the 2026-2027 school year. This is a school year position which includes an eight-week non-work period in the summer months. ย This part-time role is eligible for our 401(k) plan with employer match policy.

Many of our clients choose CFS because they desire to have their care guided by principles and values of the Christian faith. Our approach embraces the two main aspects of the Bible's teachings: God's Law (His guide for living) and His Gospel (His forgiveness and grace when we and others fail to live according to the guidance He provides). As a therapist with Christian Family Solutions, you will meet clients where they are in terms of their faith. Any application of faith principles is done with the appropriate sensitivity and cultural competence that meets or exceeds the standards of our profession as outlined in the American Psychological Association's ethical code. We provide excellent and compassionate care to all clients, regardless of socioeconomic background or faith affiliation.

Why work for Christian Family Solutions?

You will receive guidance, support, and training on evidence-based care along with Christian integration techniques so that you can appropriately align the counseling experience with the principles of the Christian faith. You will work in a unique environment where both your professional skills and your faith can grow.

Joining our team means more than just a career - it's a vocation driven by a profound sense of purpose. We prioritize the professional development of our staff, providing ample opportunities for both professional and spiritual growth. To deliver our unique approach, training opportunities are built into our benefits package. That said, our employees regularly tell us that their reasons for working at CFS extend far beyond compensation and benefits. It's about a calling to serve others in their time of great need. If you are motivated to assist clients in a comfortable, supportive, and Christ-centered atmosphere with a strong Christian Mission and Core Values, we want you to be a part of our team!
