What is a part-time CFO?

Part-time CFOs, also known as fractional CFOs, are experienced financial executives who work with organizations on a part-time or contract basis. They provide strategic financial leadership, manage cash flow, oversee budgeting and forecasting, and support high-level decision-making—without the cost of hiring a full-time executive. This arrangement is ideal for startups, small businesses, or companies in transition that need expert financial guidance but don't require or can't afford a full-time CFO.

What does a part-time CFO do?

A part-time CFO (chief financial officer) lends their expertise to a company when needed, which is on either an hourly or contract basis. An as-needed structure is beneficial to enterprises that want to reap the benefits of a CFO’s knowledge without paying the high salaries that accompany this position. A CFO offers guidance in accounting and finances and oversees critical financial aspects of a business, like the budget and expenses, to manage cash flow, margins, key performance indicators, and the overall profit picture. Your job duties also include educating other top-level executives on how to improve the company’s financial health.

How does a part-time CFO typically collaborate with existing finance teams and leadership in an organization?

A part-time CFO usually works closely with in-house finance staff and senior leadership to provide strategic financial guidance while leveraging existing resources. They often focus on high-level tasks such as financial forecasting, budgeting, and advising on major business decisions, while delegating routine accounting and bookkeeping to the internal team. Regular check-ins and clear communication help ensure everyone stays aligned on goals and deliverables. This structure allows organizations to benefit from CFO expertise without the cost of a full-time executive, and also creates opportunities for current team members to learn and grow from the CFO's mentorship.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part-time CFO, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time CFO, you need strong financial acumen, experience in strategic planning, and a background in accounting or finance, often supported by a CPA or MBA. Familiarity with financial reporting software, ERP systems, and budgeting tools is typically required. Exceptional communication, analytical thinking, and adaptability are key soft skills that distinguish top performers. These skills ensure effective financial leadership, strategic decision-making, and adaptability to changing business needs in a part-time capacity.

Business Development Coordinator

Tech9

Job description

Role Purpose
Tech9 is a global outsourced software development and consulting firm. We sell complex, high-trust engagements to small and mid-market companies. This role is the engine behind our outbound sales motion - you own the research, systems, and cadence management that allow senior leadership to focus on the conversations and relationships that close deals.
You are not a quota-carrying salesperson. You are the force multiplier that makes a founder-led sales motion scale without losing quality.
Core Responsibilities
1. Target Identification & List Building
• Build and maintain prospect lists using LinkedIn Sales Navigator, job boards, Crunchbase, and other research tools based on ICP criteria defined by the executive team.
• Enrich prospect records: identify correct contacts (VP Eng, CTO, CPO), verify contact information, pull company context
• Run weekly signal sweeps: monitor for funding rounds, leadership hires, platform migration job postings, acquisition announcements, and other timing triggers
• Apply prospect scoring rubric and maintain the active outreach list in HubSpot
2. Pre-Outreach Research
• Produce structured research briefs for each prospect covering business model, tech footprint, recent news, growth signals, and leadership
• Compile contact dossiers: career history, published content, shared connections, mutual network ties
• Flag mutual connections and relationship context for the CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting and other Execs to tag proximity (cold, acquaintance, lapsed-close)
3. Outreach Execution & Cadence Management
• Draft outreach messages for cold-tier prospects following established messaging frameworks and quality standards
• Send approved cold outreach via LinkedIn and email on behalf of the CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting or under a BD persona
• Manage the full multi-touch follow-up cadence - no prospect falls through the cracks
• Monitor engagement signals: LinkedIn profile views, email opens, content interactions
• Log every touch, response, and status change in HubSpot within 24 hours
4. Response Handling & Appointment Setting
• Triage all inbound replies: categorize as interested, curious, not now, not interested, wrong person, or referral
• Draft responses for "not now" and "wrong person" replies
• Route all "interested" and "curious" replies to the CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting immediately
• Schedule discovery calls, send calendar invitations, and confirm meetings
• Prepare pre-call briefing packets for the CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting before every discovery meeting
5. Post-Call Support & Pipeline Nurture
• Draft post-call follow-up emails from CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting notes or meeting transcripts for CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting review and send
• Update CRM with opportunity details, next steps, and status changes
• Manage nurture cadence for "not now" prospects: share relevant content, monitor for re-engagement triggers
• Surface re-engagement opportunities when prospect signals change (new funding, job posting, leadership move)
What This Role Does Not Include
  • Running discovery calls or any live prospect conversations
  • Writing outreach for warm or lapsed-close tier prospects (CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting handle these)
  • Making strategic targeting decisions or ICP changes
  • Making go/no-go decisions on opportunities

Qualifications
Required
  • 1-3 years of experience in sales development, prospecting, lead research, or BD operations
  • Proficiency with LinkedIn Sales Navigator and a modern CRM (HubSpot preferred)
  • Strong written English - you will draft outreach messages that represent the CEO/CPO/Director of Recruiting
  • Research skills: ability to quickly synthesize company information from multiple sources into a clear, structured brief
  • Disciplined and process-oriented - you follow cadences, log activity, and don't let things slide.

Preferred
  • Familiarity with B2B technology services (software development, IT consulting, or similar)
  • Experience supporting executive-level or founder-led sales motions
  • Comfort with AI-assisted workflows and tools
  • Exposure to the software development lifecycle or basic technical literacy (you don't need to code, but you need to understand what a CTO cares about)

Additional Role Details
  • Hybrid to Fully remote options. Office is located in Lehi, UT
  • Part-time (20 hours/week)

How Success Is Measured
  • Outreach volume and cadence completion rate - every prospect completes the sequence or is explicitly disqualified
  • Research brief quality - passes the "swap test" (could not be sent to just any company)
  • CRM hygiene - all contacts, touches, and statuses logged within 24 hours
  • Discovery meetings booked per month from cold outreach
  • Signal-to-Exec turnaround - interested replies surfaced within 4 business hours

Why This Role Matters
Tech9 sells trust. Our clients hand us their product roadmaps and engineering challenges. That means the Executives' time in conversations with prospects is the single most valuable activity in the company's growth engine. Every hour you save the Executives' on research, CRM logging, follow-up scheduling, and cadence management is an hour they can spend in the conversations that close deals. You are the infrastructure that makes the growth engine run.
