Position Summary

The Head Coach, Women's Lacrosse exists to lead and execute the day-to-day operations of a competitive NCAA Division III women's lacrosse program at Centenary University. This is a part-time, 9-month appointment running with the academic year and competitive season. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position leads recruiting, coaching, player development, academics, and compliance for the program. The incumbent must be able to work independently as well as within a team and be prepared to travel frequently with the team.

Core Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

1) Program Leadership and Operations

  • Oversee all aspects of the women's lacrosse program, including scheduling, budgeting, and day-to-day operations.

Outcome: Effective program operations and successful execution of season goals.

2) Recruiting and Roster Management

  • Recruit and retain qualified prospective student-athletes to build a competitive, balanced roster.

Outcome: Full, competitive roster aligned with University enrollment goals.

3) Coaching and Player Development

  • Conduct training sessions to aid in the skill development of team members.
  • Manage game-day preparation and scouting of opponents.

Outcome: Competitive success and measurable player development.

4) Student-Athlete Academic Support and Wellbeing

  • Monitor eligibility status and promote academic progress of student-athletes.
  • Monitor health, wellness, and safety of team members; work with athletic training and strength/conditioning staff to support development and recovery.

Outcome: Positive student-athlete experience and improved academic and athletic performance.

5) Staff Supervision and Mentorship

  • Hire, supervise, and mentor assistant and volunteer coaches.
  • Counsel and mentor team members as needed.

Outcome: Well-developed coaching staff and a positive team culture.

6) Compliance and Conduct

  • Maintain knowledge of and commitment to compliance with NCAA, conference, and Centenary University rules and regulations.
  • Enforce department and team expectations regarding general standards of behavior for student-athletes.

Outcome: Compliance with NCAA, conference, and University requirements.

7) Budget and Equipment Management

  • Manage the program within the framework of the established budget, including purchasing equipment/apparel, uniforms, supplies, and other services.

Outcome: Fiscal responsibility and efficient resource utilization.

8) Team Travel and Game-Day Operations

  • Coordinate development of a competitive and balanced schedule.
  • Transport team members to away contests as required.

Outcome: Efficient operations and successful events.

9) Campus and Community Representation

  • Engage with key university staff and offices as necessary for matters related to the program and Athletics Division.
  • Represent the University at conferences, meetings, seminars, and to the public as required.
  • Serve as a role model for team members with regard to personal and professional conduct.

Outcome: Enhanced visibility and productive campus and community relationships.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations regarding Women's Lacrosse
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Completion of NCAA Division III Rules Test

Preferred

  • One (1) to three (3) years of coaching experience at the college level
  • Previous college, professional, and/or international playing experience
