The Opportunity:
Carpenters Hall is seeking an enthusiastic Part-Time Host to join the team. The person in this role will welcome patrons, seat them at tables or in the lounge, and help to ensure the quality of the facility and service. The person in this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. All Bunkhouse employees are expected to greet all guests in close proximity and make each feel important by providing a genuine welcome. Furthermore, they must develop and maintain the company's culture, values and reputation in the public eye.

Opened in fall 2018, this South Austin hotel is one with its lush surroundings. Carpenter Hotel features a pool with a community deck and Q Hut pavilion. Each of its 93 rooms comes with a terrace. Take in the scenery with fare from our all-day Coffee Bar or enjoy a meal on the patio or in the dining rooms of our restaurant, Carpenters Hall.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure immediate response is given to any and all guest comments and concerns, inform immediate supervisor of concerns and assist implementing corrective measure when necessary
  • Provide guests with menus
  • Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas
  • Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs
  • Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper setup
  • Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and to respond to complaints
  • Receive and record patrons' dining reservations
  • Maintain contact with Kitchen staff, management, Serving staff, and customers to ensure that dining details are handled properly and customers' concerns are addressed
  • Inform patrons of establishment specialties and features
  • Direct patrons to waiting areas such as lounges
  • Operate cash registers to accept payments for food and beverages (if applicable)
  • Prepare cash receipts after establishments close
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of dining room staff to ensure that patrons receive prompt and courteous service
  • Help hire and train other Hosts and Hostesses
  • Assist in planning functions or other special events and services

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position.
