***This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP***

Under the supervision of the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Carpenter Supervisor supervises a team which constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood & metal, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to building codes. Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.


Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Supervises a team of Carpenters and other trades which constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood or metal, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to building codes.
  • Supervise general maintenance and technicians performing painting and corrosion control on metal structures.
  • Use sound judgement to perform repair work on spalling concrete structures and ironwork to include concrete pours.
  • Oversees preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Emphasizes, implements and maintains a safe workplace program and ensures safety is the highest priority on the job site.
  • Directs the overall planning of maintenance and repair activities to identify critical milestones and priorities.
  • Determines staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule of a tasking.
  • Manages the assignment of manpower, materials and equipment to maximize efficiency, maintain schedules, and to meet tasking requirements.
  • Ensures the use of sound carpentry practices per international building codes to attain required final product quality with minimum cost.
  • Serves as the primary contact with the client representatives, subcontractors, and government representatives for carpentry-related activities.
  • Maintains strong client and community relations.
  • Participates in the recruiting and selection of candidate(s) for both fulltime and contract openings and follows all applicable Human Resources hiring practices.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with the position as directed by the Operations & Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensures entries and updates Work Order information on CMMS (GFEBS and/or MAXIMO) are promptly accomplished
  • Provides leadership, guidance, skill related training and technical assistance to Carpentry subordinates in the performance of their day-to-day activities
  • Ensures compliance with Performance Work Statement and applicable V2X POs and PIOPs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
    • Associate degree or equivalent preferred.
    • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
    • Must be a U.S. Citizen
    • Must be able to obtain Host Country Passenger Vehicle license
    • Must possess valid Carpenter License
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of progressive experience in specified and related field, to include supervising employees.
    • Evidence of completion of trade school and/or a minimum of four (4) years of apprenticeship training preferred.
    • Apprenticeship training preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to supervise employees effectively; work under pressure, strict timelines, and regulations
    • Analytical skills to be able to solve work-related problems.
    • Manual dexterity for installing material, and equipment, to meet specifications.
    • Demonstrated effective organizational skills are also required, as well as a strong written and oral communication skills
    • Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork.
    • Must exercise discretion and good sound judgment.
    • Must have basic computer skills(knowledge of Microsoft Office programs to include, Word, Excel and Power Point preferred).
    • Must have a thorough understanding of IBC Civil/Carpentry Standards
  • Supervisory Requirements:
    • Supervises a team of carpenters/construction workers.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 85 degrees in the summer months).
    • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
    • The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions. No effective protection from the weather.
    • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
    • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices. Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
