Job description

Vintage & Classic Car Mechanic - Part Time

Newport Beach, CA

We are seeking a highly skilled and dependable Automotive Technician to maintain and service a collection of vintage European automobiles (1950s–1970s), along with some classic American vehicles.

What you'll do:

  • Provide routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair work on vintage European vehicles
  • Maintain vehicles to preserve both mechanical performance and originality
  • Work flexibly around a private schedule — ideal for a semi-retired mechanic, independent specialist, or someone looking to supplement other work

What we're looking for:

  • Proven hands-on experience with 1950s–70s European automobiles (marque experience such as Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, or similar a strong plus)
  • Comfort also working on classic American vehicles
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and trustworthy — this is a private, ongoing role, not a shop environment
  • Flexible availability, roughly 20 hours/week

Details:

  • Private, part-time position — approximately 20 hours/week
  • Flexible schedule based on mutual availability
  • Compensation commensurate with experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and scheduled services across the fleet.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
  • Conduct comprehensive vehicle inspections and identify preventative maintenance needs.
  • Maintain accurate service records and maintenance schedules.
  • Manage parts sourcing, ordering, and inventory.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety, emissions, and performance standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Communicate clearly regarding vehicle condition, repair recommendations, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with outside vendors or specialty shops as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as an automotive technician.
  • Proven experience working with foreign and European vehicles.
  • ASE Certification required (Master Technician preferred); OEM or manufacturer-specific training (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic, electrical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Prior experience in a fleet or multi-vehicle maintenance environment preferred.
  • Background in a dealership or high-end independent repair shop preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, manage workload efficiently, and maintain accurate service records.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • High standards of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work under vehicles using lifts or jacks.
  • Ability to work in a garage environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and automotive fluids.

The above is intended to describe the general content of and requirements for the performance of this job.  It is not to be construed as an exhaustive statement of duties, responsibilities or requirements.  Nothing in this job description restricts management’s right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
