Part-Time Canvasser

Environmental Health Coalition (EHC) is hiring temporary bilingual (Spanish/English) community outreach champions to support the RICCE (Rooted in Comunidad, Cultivating Equity) project. This initiative strengthens community resilience and promotes environmental and social justice in San Diego's urban neighborhoods through inclusive, community-led planning.
Canvassers will help engage residents in conversations about RICCE and our Community Advisory Board (CAB), facilitating information sharing and gathering community feedback on transformative climate and equity plans.
Neighborhoods include: Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, Sherman Heights, Mt. Hope, Shelltown, Stockton, Grant Hill, and Southcrest.
EHC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that advocates for public initiatives protecting public health and the environment through community education and organizing. We are passionate about justice and welcome those who share this commitment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Canvasser for EHC, you will:
  • Conduct community outreach to engage residents.
  • Recruit residents to participate in the Community Advisory Board (CAB)
  • Distribute informational materials about RICCE and partner organization events
  • Administer entry and feedback surveys
  • Document and report community input
  • Work collaboratively with other canvassers and EHC staff

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Bilingual required (Spanish/English)
  • Good communication skills
  • Punctuality and good work ethic
  • Commitment to the empowerment of communities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Prior experience canvassing or collecting petitions
  • Personal vehicle
  • Ability to use an EHC provided Smart Phone/Tablet

ADDITIONAL DETAILS
  • Work period: June, July, and October 2026, on the following dates: June 24-27, July 8-11; October 7-10, 13-16, 20-23, and 28-29.
  • Schedule: Tuesday-Friday; 4 hours per day (with only two Tuesdays in October).
  • Total hours: Approximately 94 hours per year per canvasser (88 hours of canvassing + 6 hours of mandatory training).
  • Hourly rate: $21.50/hour
  • Hours per week: 16 hours per week (4 hours per day ร— 4 days per week)
  • Mandatory paid training: 6 hours total. June 15 (4-hour Structured Workshop); June 16 (2-hour Guided Community Tour).
  • Mileage reimbursement will be provided for approved work-related travel in accordance with the standard California mileage rate.

Salary: $21.50/hour
