Organization Overview:

The Neighborhood Charter Network (NCN) is a grassroots organization that launched in 2016 in order to manage a growing family of schools in Indianapolis, IN. The mission of The Neighborhood Charter Network is to expand educational equity to the communities we serve.


Job Summary

The School Cafeteria Dishwasher & Prep Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. This position is responsible for dishwashing, sanitation, and supporting food preparation as needed to ensure timely meal service. The Dishwasher & Prep Assistant works collaboratively with the kitchen team and follows all Health Department regulations, food safety standards, and USDA compliance requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, dish room, and service areas
  • Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, trays, and kitchen equipment
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and cleaning procedures at all times
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks as assigned, including washing, chopping, portioning, and labeling ingredients
  • Support kitchen staff with prep lists and daily operational needs to ensure meals are served on time
  • Ensure proper use and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Monitor dishwashing workflow to keep up with service demands and maintain efficiency
  • Remove trash, recycling, and compost according to established procedures
  • Assist set up and breaking down the kitchen and service areas
  • Communicate equipment issues, supply needs, or safety concerns promptly to the Kitchen Manager
  • Support a safe, organized, and respectful work environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support cafeteria operations
  • Attend required and/or optional special events and training sessions outside of standard school hours, as scheduled


Qualifications


Required:

  • Strong attention to cleanliness, food safety, and organization
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks
  • Ability to engage positively with students, staff, and teammates
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Willingness to assist with food preparation as needed


Preferred:

  • Experience in dishwashing, food service, or school cafeteria settings
  • Familiarity with basic food safety and sanitation practices

  • Ability to speak Spanish
