Job Summary:

The Data and Analytics Senior role is responsible for planning, implementing, and optimising solutions that support work process and data management within Bechtel proprietary systems, as well as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and the broader Microsoft Azure ecosystem.  The role provides hands-on technical leadership and support for modern data platform delivery in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) environments.  Works with enterprise teams and within existing and emerging governance and security frameworks and aligns with ongoing enterprise initiatives for the various data management platforms.

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership” 

Major Responsibilities:
  • Works directly with business groups and project teams to understand requirements use cases, documents systems design and coordinates team members to implement scalable and interconnected systems that support data analytics, business intelligence, artificial intelligence, and management reporting
  • Utilises existing workspaces and governance to enable robust, secure, and cost-effective use of both on-premises and cloud data platforms
  • Supports the development of internal Bechtel resources who have an interest in building practical skills in Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure data engineering, and modern analytics platform delivery
  • Builds, implements and optimises ETL and ELT pipelines using Databricks, Fabric Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2, pipelines, notebooks, and Python
  • Implements reusable ingestion, transformation, validation, and orchestration frameworks for data sources, including engineering registers, tag data, vendor data, procurement packages, material tracking, construction work packages, progress quantities, schedule data, cost data, and completions records
  • Supports migration from legacy data sources, SQL platforms, etc. to Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, with consideration for master data, and lifecycle handover requirements
  • Meets regularly with team members and stakeholders, including Project Managers, information and digital teams, innovation and AI teams, to confirm direction and deliverables timing and report progress
  • Supports an innovation culture, seeking opportunities to improve processes, to standardise data and to promote AI methodologies.
Required Knowledge and Skills:

The role requires a blend of individual leadership, customer service, and analytical and technical skills.  Key attributes you bring to this role include:

  • Hands-on experience with complex data management systems, Databricks, Microsoft Azure Data Lake Services (ADLS), Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Power BI and associated technologies
  • Ability to quickly learn Bechtel-specific work processes and integrated systems
  • Knowledge of modern data architecture patterns, including Lakehouse, medallion architecture, data mesh concepts, dimensional modelling, and enterprise data warehousing
  • Ability to partner with project teams to review and understand end-to-end work processes and planning to support study and project execution
  • Knowledge of work processes, applications and data integration to a level which allows development of clear documentation and articulation of plans that support project execution
  • Able to translate technical information into practical terms for discussion and presentation to broad audiences
  • Demonstrates a strong safety focus and value the development and maintenance of customer relationships that clearly define expectations and responsibilities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • 8+ years of industry experience gained through a recognised degree in a STEM-related field, and / or specialised courses in Engineering, IT or related fields, and / or 10+ years’ work experience in a STEM-related field.  2+ years of ETL, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, ADLS experience.
