Position Overview: As a School Bus Monitor, you will work in tandem with the bus driver to ensure the safety of students during school routes, field trips, and other school-related activities. Your responsibilities will include managing student behavior, assisting with boarding and disembarking, and enforcing safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Student Safety: Monitor students' behavior and maintain a secure environment on the bus at all times.
  • Assist with Boarding and Disembarking: Safely assist students on and off the bus, ensuring they are only handed off to authorized individuals.
  • Support the Bus Driver: Help the driver maintain focus on the road by managing student interactions and behavior.
  • Enforce Safety Procedures: Ensure students are securely seated, using appropriate restraints as required.
  • Provide Customer Service: Address passengers' questions and concerns in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Seat Assignments: Ensure efficient seating arrangements to maximize safety and comfort.
  • Perform Safety Checks: Conduct routine checks of the bus before each departure to ensure proper function.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Be prepared to respond swiftly in emergency situations, including assisting with evacuations and following safety protocols.

Physical Requirements:

  • Open and close bus doors with a minimum force of 30 pounds.
  • Safely climb and descend bus steps, with a maximum step height of 17.5 inches.
  • Respond efficiently to emergencies, including evacuating individuals and operating emergency controls.
  • Capable of carrying or dragging a 125-pound individual a minimum of 30 feet within 30 seconds.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pass a 12-panel drug screen, including marijuana, and a federal fingerprint background check.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Pay: $16.50 per hour
  • Benefits: Health insurance, Paid time off
